When Accidents Happen

{diy bamboo sunburst mirror for hgtv.com}

A couple weeks ago a rousing game of "throw the pillow" by a small gang of boys playing in the house resulted in the below. Bye bye DIY Bamboo Sunburst Mirror!

After cleaning up the mess, what managed to survive looked just a little bit silly when hung back up on the expansively large wall! That's not going to cut it for too long...

Then one day I stumbled across several forgotten pieces of art, stashed below a bed.
{Don't tell me nothing's hiding under your bed!}

Hum, perhaps here was my solution to the bare wall dilemma!
Grabbing a hammer, some nails and hanging hardware I got to work, before the urge passed.

It did occur to me for a brief moment that perhaps I should do some planning first,
but then again holes in the wall never hurt anyone.

Luckily I love the outcome. All this happy color just completely warms up the space!

I had long considered hanging a grouping here, but yes, I'd been afraid of all those holes and would I like it and on and on. Perhaps sometimes you just have to go for it. After all, it's only decorating, right?

Later I added a little mask done as a school project at the lower left hand corner. Who knows what will be added or replaced next. I guess that is the fun of it.

So in this case, I have to say I'm not unhappy an accident occurred.
{Though pillow throwing has officially been banned.}

  7. I love it. My best galleries have happened when I just start hanging…not too much thinking! My beloved sunburst mirror (from your tutorial) is still in pieces in a box from when we moved across the country. I have big plans of reassembling it someday!

  9. I love what you pulled out from under the bed! I'm going to have to go look under mine, ha ha!
    I laughed at your "holes never hurt the wall" comment... when I am hanging for a client I am meticulous so I do not put a hole in the wrong place - I plan and plan. But when I am hanging for myself .. oh you would die if you saw how many holes are behind my art pieces! Your gallery wall looks beautiful, refreshing and colorful - enjoy!

  10. I almost always end up "tossing things up" on a blank wall - and have only regretted it when I go to repaint :) Your wall looks beautiful!

  15. I must confess that I love it, but do not have the courage to do something similar in my home. I look at people who collage their walls in this manner and think, "How in the world?" I am glad that it just happened organically for you. That empowers me to move forward when I feel that urge to do something outside the box...like buying a pink chair. What stopped me then was the vision of mauve watered silk slipper chairs that sat like a pair of queens in my grandmother's living room. I think I'll go back to see if that pink mess of a chair is still there...thanks, I think,

  16. Love when the unexpected comes along. And to use special artwork is so meaningful. I am with you. . . holes in the wall never hurt anyone! I say go for it. And smart to do it while you were in the mood. I have learned. If I let the mood pass. . .it could be months!

  17. I can't believe you just threw that all up without a plan it came out that perfect! I've tried to ban throwing things in the house but no one seems to hear me. I feel like I'm constantly on mute when it comes to discipline time. Kids.

  18. Love how it turned out, Janell! There seems to be a lot of accidents happening in my home lately. Kind of funny because we are moving, so I just keep saying, "less to pack I guess". ;) Sorry it's been so long since I stopped in. Happy Holidays!!
