Addicted to.... Downton Abbey!

Do you watch Downton Abbey? I hadn't until my interest was piqued after watching a recent segment on CBS Sunday Morning, showing a behind the scenes glimpse of the real owners of the castle and a bit about its history. I thought it was particularly interesting what they shared about the role and impact filming the TV series has had on their being able to maintain the property, and thought, "Hum, I'll have to watch an episode one of these days."

Ha. "An episode." The other night when I opened Netflix on my iPad and saw a listing for Downton Abbey, I decided to see what all the talk is about. If you're a fan, you can probably guess what happened next. I watched and watched and would have keep watching more if I didn't have to get up so early the next morning!

But the next night I did, finishing the entire first year series.
What is it about this show that is so captivating?

All I know is I'll be looking for where I can watch the rest of the series aired to date, as it is not on Netflix. But, if you've been watching, don't tell me anything about what happens!

I know, I know. My husband gave me Downton Abbey Season 1 and 2 for Christmas and we have been watching them every few nights or so. We have only watched 3 episodes so far (I know very restrained). We are trying not to watch them all at once as I read that half the fun is the anticipation and I don't want to ruin that.

It is addictive. I love the costumes and the accents and everything really. It moves REALLY fast, not like an American soap. I know it will end soon, but I am loving it now and am re reading all the British lit from school. I'm on Mansfield Park now!

Yea! I love seeing people in my fed slowly come around to Downton.

Every Sunday night, I go to my parents' house to watch with them. My dad loves it so much when they got back from watching the Super Bowl last week, he asked my mom if they could watch it. She doesn't work, and he does, and she reminded him of this. He looked so disappointed, they sat down and watched until late. Now THAT'S impressive.

YES. Downton is one of my favorite shows. Season 2 is available on Amazon Prime or OnDemand if you have either of those things. Actually, all of the episodes are OnDemand, including the new season.

Yes! Thanks for the tips, just looked and indeed there it is at Amazon Prime. I'll try to follow Grace's advice and resist watching them all at once!

I saw that same segment on CBS. Really interesting. Can't imagine what it would be like to live in that enormous place.

You can rent season two which is on dvd. I made a b line to the video store as soon as I finished watching season 1 on netflix. If you get through it, season three is on now. You can watch the episodes you missed online at the pbs website. So good....

PBS has the 3rd season but they don't have the entire season just what has aired already. Color me addicted!

I did the same thing and watched the entire first season in a couple of days. Found the 2nd season on Hulu and did the same thing. Now I'm watching it on PBS or DVR. Love it! Enjoy!

We just watched the entire first season on Netflix too! And I'm dying that there are no more seasons on there as of yet. I need my fix! So addicted to the show now.

Downton Abbey is the only show I watch all week! It is my hubby and my "bonding" time. We both love it.

Addicting! My husband and I about died when we realized it was 2am and we had been watching for hours! He had an early flight to catch the next morning and I had 4 littles to get off to school! Couldn't believe how hooked we'd become! I love it! You can purchase all 3 seasons at Costco!

Yes, totally hooked, especially on any scene which Maggie Smith steals.
Be warned, using social media is extremely dangerous for those of us who are a little behind the current episodes. After the Christmas special aired in the UK, I stumbled upon a hugely unwelcome spoiler headline on the front page of a news site... :(

This is the only show I watch every week. I have no patience for all the reality shows that seem to be prevalent on TV now. Downton is so refreshing! (And addictive!)

That's totally what happened to me! I just watched the first two seasons on Netflix. Now I am watching them as the air. No worries, I wont' give anything away

The characters, the writing
( nothing like British humor...)
the settings-it's all so amazing.

We DVR it and watch it during dinner on Mondays. We COULD watch season three in one weekend, LOL, but we are savoring it week-by-week, old fashion like.

Welcome to the cult of Downton. Tea?

I might have misspoken! I know Costco has season 1 and 2 but apparently my mom ordered season 3 (from Amazon or someplace). Good luck!

Isn't it great!? Gorgeous dresses, tangled storylines, handsome men.... and Maggie Smith's one-liners... what's NOT to love?!

Oh, how I love Downton. I couldn't resist and ordered season 3 and watched the whole thing in 3 days. And now I'm so sad that I'm finished and can't look forward to it anymore! Much better to exercise restraint.... :)

Love DA also and anxiously await each episode. If you want a good laugh watch Jimmy Fallon's parody called Downton Sixbey...so named because his late night show is shot in studio 6B. It really is a hoot! http://www.pastemagazine.com/articles/2013/02/watch-latest-installment-of-downton-sixbey-on-fall.html

Watching Downton Abbey is the best way to finish a weekend. Maggie Smith is a riot!

Welcome to the club! I also recently started watching it after hearing all the buzz on blogs. I had to purchase the second series on iTunes, and have stayed up to date thanks to my recorder. What a lovely era that must had been, at least in the fashion department.

I did the same thing. I decided I'd see what all the fuss was about and my mother in law loaned me her DVDs of season 1 and 2. While crafting one day I watched episodes 1 and 2. I started the third episode (one of the most pivotal of the entire first 2 seasons) but only let myself watch from the treadmill. I have caught up with Season 3 now and have lost 7 pounds!

I did the same thing and stayed up till two in the morning watching the first season. I talked about it so much that my husband is also addicted. We have Comcast so we were able to watch season two and the episodes we missed of season three. I have to admit I'm a little upset that the season finally is next Sunday. Have fun watching it really is a good show.

Hollie @ I'm Busy Procrastinating said...

We borrowed the season 1 DVD set from a friend last summer and got addicted right away like you did. The last episode from season 3 is on tonight, and I think I'm going to go into withdrawal again. Boo!

Somehow the historical time period makes it okay to watch what is essentially a well-done soap opera!
