A Perfect Way to Get to More Books!

There are so many books I'd love to find the time to read, and yet I had never really considered listening to books until I was talking with Mimi Inman the other day - my dear friend and Beauty Editor at HOF. When she mentioned how much she had been enjoying fitting books into her day, listening to them while cleaning up the kitchen or driving...I had a light bulb moment!

So home I went and downloaded audible and started listening;
a perfect way make the best use of the time spent getting ready in the morning, for example!

There are so many apps out there to use, I just happen to be a big fan of Amazon,
so their version called audible was a logical choice for me.

(And no I'm not getting paid to say any of this...just excited to get some more books into my days!)

Do you listen to books? Which app are you using and what is your favorite book to date?

  1. Jane, let me make this even better for you. My husband has impaired vision and can't read at all. He has been downloading books on to his Ipod for FREE from library for years. Most libraries have that available to you...the selection isn't as big as Audible but the cost of the books add up after awhile when you are purchasing them. This service is available to everyone, not just people with impaired vision. Check it out and see what your library has. Oh, he does it all online..no trip necessary.

  2. What a wonderful idea. I never have reading books on my list of activities, although I want to, but have never been a 'reader', so this might be perfect for me. Im going to try it. Janell, do you know of an Ipad app that helps us to view and comment better on blogs?
    Have a great day.

  3. My husband and I make an 8 hour round trip each month to our second home. We have been downloading books from audible and the library to listen to together. The best part is they are books that neither one of us would have picked out, we try to find something different. Last weekend was a Stephen King. As an artist I work in my studio every day and instead of listening to music, I usually have a book on my ipod. Those I try and read bestsellers so I can talk intelligently to my book club!

  4. Stacey,

What a fantastic tip! I'll look into this because yes, the cost...it can add up. My boy loves to download books to his kindle and that gets expensive as well, off to see what our library offers! Thanks, Janell

  6. I'll second the library as a mode for e-books and audio books. Most libraries have a wide selection (though sometimes you might have to wait/put popular books on hold). My mother listens to TONS of books via the library, and I am always downloading e-books on my kindle and/or ipad. And you just have to get them online, so you have access anytime/anywhere!

  7. I also have been listening to books. It really motivates me to get stuff done around my house. My library uses overdrive and it is free to download with my library card. You can also download ebooks.

  8. Great tip Janell...thanks! I am totally addicted to my new ipad that I got for Christmas. I have already read several books...and audible books are a perfect option and app to add! Have you read/listened to Gone Girl? Loved it! A must add to your reading list.

  9. I always have a book going on my kindle and a book in my car! You will not believe how much time you spend in the car and how fast you go through a book. I always get my audio books from the library. The last one was Those Who Save Us....very good.

  10. Oh my gosh! I used to listen to books on tape (yikes dating myself) and loved it. Sometimes I would just sit in my car after I arrived at my destination and listen to my book because it was so good. Yes, a light bulb moment for me too, going to go download me some today. Thanks Janelle

  11. Check with your local library. My library is part of a program with Overdrive Media that brings together different libraries around the state. They have thousands of e-books and audiobooks that you check out and download to your devices. It's great and even better, it's free!

  12. I LOVE reading and listening to books on my smartphone. I listen to audio books while driving, while waiting at dr appts, gas station, grocery shopping, etc. I use the overdrive media player from the library and check out free books that way. I wanted to do the amazon thing but I had a hard time finding free books and I typically only read books once so buying them is not for me.
