I'm Laughing At You, My Dear 50's...{51 Now To Be Exact}

...because what else is there to do?
There are moments when I really can't stand getting older and the little changes I see,
creeping in month by month.

But at the same time, to hell with it.
I'm thrilled to have reached 51 feeling, on most days,
incredibly happy,
fortunate
and
grateful...

for all that I have and get to enjoy!

This Lady Knows How To Take A Photograph

When I was first introduced to the work of photographer Jean Allsopp I saw immediately there is something special to her work. They way in which she captures rooms, shooting in natural light, results in stunning yet realistic images which portray a space as they look on their best days in real life.

It was such a treat to interview Jean for a story we ran in our Holiday issue last fall, learning what she believes is key to capturing the homes and spaces she photographs with the beauty and clarity seen in her shots. In the article we share more of her great images and the story behind her venturing out on her own, after a successful career as a staff photographer at Southern Living and later Coastal Living.

Read the story here, beginning on page 26.

Ladies of Fashion

I spied this image on Pinterest and had to learn more, simply smitten with these lady's intense doses of style!

Stylist Elisa Nalin and Blogger/Street Style Photographer Tamu McPherson during Milan Fashion Week

Those shoes...

...and an unexpected mix of materials and textures.
Viviana Volpicella, Assistant Fashion Editor at Vogue Nippon

Tamu McPherson pulls off brilliant color and pattern.

Searching, I found several more looks by Elisa Nalin...

...who obviously has an eye for mixing unexpected pattern and color in a way that manages to work.

Such fun to see these looks, inspiring the thought that perhaps I could be
just a tiny bit more adventurous with my own wardrobe!

LIVING IN COLOR

When the designer sent me these shots, I was blown away!
What a beautiful apartment in Lisbon, Portugal designed by Ana Cordeiro.

A cheerful breakfast nook off the kitchen is a perfect place for a young family to begin their day. White cabinetry and furniture designed by Ana, paired with the light streaming in, creates an airy room for each day of the year. A brightly colored ‘Laugh’ print is a simple reminder of one of the best parts of being a family.

The inspirational starting point for this entire project was the ‘Julian’ Blue on White wallpaper from Thibaut, seen in the master bedroom. Blue is one of the couple’s favorite colors, and so it was decided it would run throughout the apartment in varying shades, with hints of yellow, green, red and orange as accent colors. To ensure the overall effect remained modern, an abundance of white was brought in through pieces from her furniture collection, many featuring trellis and geometric patterns in their detailing.

Anything less than brilliant green tile run floor to ceiling would be a disappointment in a home boldly embracing color. It works here paired with white and gray.

The room of a three year old boy is a whimsical delight, with primary colors
and a pair of toy zebras mounted on the wall.

There is a delightful consistency from room to room, which begins upon entering the apartment. Because the entry of the apartment is actually quite small, Ana covered the walls in boldly striped wallpaper and then treated the corridor just beyond as if it’s the true entrance. Carrying the stripes into the hall would have been too much, but a wool zig zag rug introduces a vibrant and complimentary pattern. A mirror lines the wall at the far end of the hall, creating the illusion of a space going on forever. A large bust placed on a white pedestal lends a hint of drama, while the luminous blue on the wall is a wallpaper from Sandberg.

What Do I Love To Enjoy After Dinner?

I bet a few games of badminton wouldn't have been your first guess,
but that's the answer!

After dinner my husband and I pick up the rackets for a match.
The competition is fierce let me tell you....

It's also a great chance for us to catch up on the day,
and yesterday we even put the kids to work cleaning up the dishes as we played.
{Walking into a mostly cleaned up kitchen was nearly as fun as the games.}

Oh, do I looooooove summer!
