Getting the Look...For Less!

Stumbling across this adorable photo of Emerson Fry, when doing research for the interview I did with her for the article on her design business in House of Fifty magazine, I fell instantly in love with this chic yet casual look. It's perfect for a work from home mom like me; stylish yet super comfortable, a take you anywhere throughout the day kind of look.

So I showed the photo to my shopping guru with the instructions,
"Find me something like this, and on the cheap of course."

Well what do you know, when shopping at H&M for back to school clothes Isabella pulled this from a rack and said, "How about this for you, you know that tunic you've been looking for?"

It's my new favorite outfit.
Not only is Isabella talented in the shopping department,
but she obliged me, snapping a few photos as we headed to the bus stop this week.

Okay, okay. If I was to nitpick my version, yes, the jeans could be wider...
but these will do until "my stylist" presents me with an option for those!

Ah, it's good to have "help" in the household!

What's you new favorite look for fall?

I have worn this exact outfit before! I love it! So chic! And great find at H&M. I got my top at Goodwill although it is a Land's End tunic. I really think it is supposed to be a dress, but its just a tad too short for me. Love it with jeans though.

Love that look! Great take on Emerson's designs, which are great, but outside my budget. May have to head over to H&M myself to add to my fall wardrobe!

Looking smashing! Need to head over to H&M tonight, or maybe Zara got something similar.

All the best from Madrid

Oh very cute. I might have to get myself over to H&M today! If I had legs as lovely and slim as yours, I would be wearing those same jeans to show them off!

You look fantastic Janell! Very chic. I need to hire your daughter for some fashion tips and her amazing photography skills. She's quite talented.

I'm loving that look of yours, actually! The jeans look fine with it, honestly, they do. Going to have to try to copy this myself. Have a great weekend!

I really like that outfit, it looks comfortable and is stylish at the same time! Since I am a stay at homer my fall look is the classic jean mixed with a cute fitted tee and a nice blazer with flats.

I love this look, very chic! I find myself wearing a lot of black and jeans too. It's classic, comfy and sturdy enough for digging for treasures at a thift store or chasing my kids.

You are darling! She really is good with outfits, isn't she! I love the longer tees and tunics. Can't wait for some big sweaters with skinny jeans.

I bet there has been a big stampede at H&M for that tunic/dress now that you've shown the world how to wear it! Great job Isabella! Janell -- you look great! Impressed that you're not in your pj's when walking to the bus stop like I used to be! :)

There was a day when I did go to the bus stop in pj's under my coat...but my daughter won't have any of that now!! :) Janell

Simple but so chic!

Seriously??? This is in the morning on the way to the bus stop? Okay, not only do I need an Isabella in my life, (and hopefully my daughter will oblige because she is already quite the fashionista at seven and has told me my clothes are too plain), but I need a Janell in my life! to help me manage my mornings in such a way as to allow me to get fashionably dressed and get my kids to the bus stop with enough time to spare to take pictures! You are the bomb! By the way, both model and photographer are rocking these photos!

Janell @ House of Fifty said...

Ha!! I'd have said "Seriously" a year ago myself. But then there comes that day that your daughter is paying attention to what you're wearing, and she wants to be proud of you and not "mind" being seen with you!! So, I'm obliging the best I can! :)

I couldn't wait to get to H&M to get this dress. Well, I did wait too long, brcause there were only 2 left when I got to Washington Square - size tiny and size huge. I settled for another black dress, similar and in the right size. Oh, well.

Janell @ House of Fifty said...

That is the thing about H&M, things move fast is they are a good item and sometimes I see something online that isn't in the store. I wished they sold online...but then again, maybe not! I don't need the temptation!

Glad you found something similar at least...Janell

Well now your talking! H&M is real close so I might just have to take a trip!

I just bought a similar tunic on sale J Crew for $89 - super tailored, great quality, wool blend. Love this look.
