A Little Wall Dressing

Can you believe this stack of artwork has been leaning up against the wall behind the chair in my entry for over a year?! Odd how you get used to randomly placed things in a home after a bit, hardly even noticing them. But last week I did notice the dust collecting behind them and thought, this just isn't right! These paintings are my grandmothers and they deserve more care and attention than this. So where to hang?

I decided this lone print on the wall just inside the front door could go,
and perhaps a collage instead would be fun.

In the old days, when I had more time for this type of thing, I would have mapped out an arrangement on Kraft paper, getting everything just as I liked before daring to put holes in the wall. But not now, oh how things change. Instead I played around with some options on the floor for a minute and then just started hanging.

Yes, it's a bit odd, but I like it. Not perfect, but lively with room to add to the collection later if I like.

I have to say I'm enjoying capturing glimpses of the paint by numbers and flower arrangement done by my sweet grandmother as I walk in and out of the house. It simply makes me happy.

Such fun prints. Looks great on that itty bitty wall space.

It is funny how you get used to things if they sit there long enough. I've had a random piece of wallpaper hanging in an art niche for at least 4 months now. I giggle when people walk in and give it a questioning look but are too nice to say anything out loud. So glad your grandmother's artwork made it up on your wall. Nothing better than heirloom art!

oh i love that collection. and that it means something. i always thought it was funny that people map out picture placement on craft paper. i guess Mom and I fly by the seat of our pants and arent overly strategic about it. i see why/how it helps tho. i just rush it i guess.

Looking good my friend. Especially like the one at the bottom - it has an old Swedish folklore vibe to it.

All kids in school no - full time! I have a new life, Janell! Come and have coffee with me! (:

Hugs to you and happy weekend.

Good for you! I'm the same way... I often just eyeball it and start hanging, and surprisingly it usually works out. I love that they were your grandmothers- how special!!

Great personal arrangement! Kind of whimsical placement- i LOVE that Janell! It is a special tribute wall to your grandma, and that is beautiful. Enjoy! and don't you wonder why you waited so long to put it up? But if you had done it months earlier you might not have arranged it this way? Interesting!
Have a great weekend.

Sometimes its hard to get around to your home when life is so busy. I am taking this month to get projects done. Working on a china hutch- I did a post on it....Boy its a lot of work! the pictures look great. Love how you arranged them.

In the past I would avoid using items from my grandparents because they weren't "trendy." Now, I love using items that are heirlooms...your collage is so inspiring!

I have been all about paint by numbers lately. I agree with your tactic btw, sometimes you gotta just bite the bullet, forget the Kraft paper and just "go for" the trial and error method of nailing the pictures into the wall (or else they'll never get up there) ha!

I'm your newest follower! My other "blog friends" have been forever fans and I'm just finding you! Sorry I'm late to the party!

I follow a lot of blogs to feed my design addiction; some I quickly scan, some are forgetable soon after and some I read with relish.

You blog is definitely in the condiment section.

Your personality comes out in every post and you always have something worth reading.

I love what you said about "loosening up a bit" in terms of achieving perfection. I think this happens as we get older. In my 30s and 40s I wanted everything in my home just so but now that I'm in my 50s, I realize that I just want "better", not "perfect" because I have so many other things I would rather be doing with my time. And anyway, today's "perfect" is tomorrow's "needs changing".

I enjoyed your comment Peggy, how true, today's perfect is tomorrow's "needs changing"...don't know if I'll ever decorate the same again! :)
