Time At The Beach

For me, summer is about time at the beach and my family makes a point to escape for a few days at least a couple times during the season if not more! Our destination is a bit of a shack, but that's okay, the views of the ocean make up for the interior. But in my daydreams, this beach house designed by Mona Ross Berman is one I could get used to!

For the design of this New Jersey beach home Mona used a lot of white, inspired by the color of beach foam, as the base color throughout and then poured a "cascade" of bright colors reminiscent of the 60's  throughout the rooms.

Mona says, "The mantra for the house was 'sixties California surfer chic.' I know that's not a real design genre, but I didn't want it to be cliche, the same version of an East Coast beach house you see a lot on the Jersey Shore." The orange, yellow, turquoise and a bit of pink seen in the house were all inspired by the geometric pattern on the 60's style dining room table. "Having a visual inspiration keeps you on track."

The key to using this much color is definitely the presence of all the white to provide relief and balance. But another key reason it works is that the colors are repeated in each space, so when moving from room to room it makes sense visually and does not become jarring.

Yes, this is definitely a home I could get used to!

I got some really great ideas from this post! Thanks!

My fiance and I currently have white walls in our house, and I'm finding it so difficult to decorate without painting - especially the bedroom!

I had pinned the turquoise bathroom before, but now I know who the designer is. The colors of this home make me happy -- a base of white with bursts of joyous brights!

LOVE a beach home that doesn't have gimmicky themed beach stuff!

Hubby and I both grew up near great beaches-he on the West coast ( San Diego), me on the East( Long Island, near Jones Beach. I've also lived in Melbourne, Australia-amazing beaches, and houses, in Oz for sure.

After living in central OR
( Bend area) for years, we are finally going to do what our hearts have been telling us to do for w while now-getting back to living near some great beaches.

Our move to San Diego cannot happen fast enough!

Wow! Stunning! When you have your own beach house that looks just as beautiful as this one, I'll be glad to take care of it for you when you're not there. : )

What I lov the most about these spaces are the pops of color against the clean and crisp white like you mentioned. Another thing that you mentioned is that the same colors are carried throughout the house. I'm trying to do this myself!
