If I could grab a few extra square feet from my living room and upstairs landing - completed wasted in these spots - and move them to our back door to create a real mud room, well I tell you life would be simplified!
I spotted a beauty at Muse Interiors, with lots of pretty built-ins, a chic light fixture and bench area,
so convenient when slipping off and on shoes!
And Ron Brenner Architects created a mudroom around the corner from the laundry, perfect!

While mudrooms are typically seen towards the back of the house, setting up storage in a front entry can add functionality and encourage the front door to actually be used! By LDa Architecture & Interiors
I can't take my eyes off this mudroom by Smith & Vansant Architects,
with the gorgeous worn bench and stone flooring.
MainStreet Design Build didn't forget the pets in this design...
...and Case Design/Remodeling, Inc. thought of everything in this combination mudroom/laundry room, even setting up a space to catch up on a little work or email while getting a few loads of laundry done.
And seriously? When did rustic get so glamorous!

Oh, I just LOVE a mudroom! I, too, just did a whole post on these useful spaces. http://jalonburton.blogspot.com/2012/01/30-day-challenge-day-six-help-with-your.html
You sound like me - I am always moving sq footage around to improve the floorplan! AMAZING images... Thanks so much for sharing and have a great weekend.... Happy St. Patty's Day! Jalon
I would love a mudroom, but, there is no space in my house to put one. This is the first house that we've had that has a coat closet though which is totally exciting.
I would lay on the floor and admire the ceiling in the Muse Interiors mudroom! So nice.
YOu just gave me a great idea. I'm getting rid of the small, useless table in my foyer & replacing it with a bench. Then folks will have a place to sit & take off their shoes when they stop by.
Thanks Janell! You're a genius!
I swear, mudrooms are the bees knees. I never tire of looking at them, and these are no exception!
Ahh...a mudroom and butlers pantry (from your recent post)...a girl can only dream!! The photos you chose are amazing and have design elements worthy enough to add to any room!
Squealingly delightful! So many ideas for our own mudroom rehab including opening it up to the laundry room...love that! Thanks so much for sharing this!
Arrived via Jones Design Company...Cheers!
We adore our mudroom and I don't want to imagine what our life would look like without it. However, I would have to throw out my children and all of their stuff in order to have our fabulous mudroom cubbies photographed for the general public. These photos must have been taken before anyone moved in.
These are beautiful mudrooms Janell! I would take any one of them! Happy Saint Patrick's Day!
I remember when we lived in Washington both our homes had mudrooms. With the weather up there it should be a requirement. I know exactly what you mean. You showed some really fun designs for a mudroom, Kathysue
LOVED these. Thanks for sharing some beauties!
When we remodeled our Alaska home, I took a bedroom next to the garage and used the space instead to put in a laundry room and mudroom. Then I added back a bedroom in the basement. Love it! I do have to add my opinion that mudrooms are cluttered places by design, and that kids aren't as good at staging as the photographers. So, I would strongly suggest keeping the mudroom separate from other rooms, unless you want to be moving boots and backpacks as you are trying to load the washing machine or sitting down to write a letter.
If I was designing a house from scratch, I would put the mudroom near the kitchen for easy acess to forgotten lunch boxes, purses and permission slips, and make it accessible from the garage AND the front door. Then I would feed the backyard traffic thru the garage as well. Can you tell I have six kids and love my mudroom?
Great finds!! I want a mudroom SO BADLY.
Yes...I so very often wish I had a mudroom! They are awesome!
