"Don't Yuck On My Yum"

While fixing dinner last night, catching up with my husband on this and that, he responded to an experience I was relaying by saying, "It's like something I read today, don't yuck on my yum." Wow, I like that. Where did you hear it? So he sent me the link.

It is just one of 43 points in a post by J.D. Roth, written in celebration of his 43 years.

This I Believe: 43 Lessons from 43 Years

19. Don’t yuck someone else’s yum. Just because you don’t like something doesn’t mean it’s bad. Pursue your passions, and let others pursue theirs. If you don’t like something, fine. There’s no need to make a big deal about it. (Note: This is a tough one for me to actually practice in daily life.)

The other 42 points are a really good read as well, but this one just struck a cord with me. We all have different opinions and thank goodness we do...it'd be terribly boring if we all thought the same. But there's a way to have differences while respecting another's yum!

And just because this is a blog and you expect pictures, here's a fav I came across recently! It's today's yum, for me.

Adding this quote to my stash! I heard one last night while watching Oprahs Life Class and Iyanla said "Don't be addicted to your story". That really hit home with me becuase I've gotten so use to leting my "story" or my past define who I am. She said that it is time to start telling a new story... So true!

Oh and thanks for the pic! That grey and pink combo is rocking:)

Perfect quote! I like to say the world would be a boring place if we were all the same, and only liked the same things. I love that picture. It might be the most adorable outdoor shower space ever!

Love that! As a culture we tend to be so negative and critical! Nice to change the focus a bit!

It's a modern twist to the old adage "Live and Let Live". Just sounds more fun:) I will use this with my kids and maybe it will be more impactful than my usual "Let people do what they do and you do what you do". Sure mom!

I think I need to go read the rest of his advice. That is such a priceless quote. We should teach our children to grow up living that one. Enjoy your day.

Great quote! Its amazing how a few little words can have a huge meaning. One of our favorite lines is "not wrong...just different". I use this often, especially for my husband who likes to re-stack the dishwasher his way...because my way is "not wrong...just different"!

You are so right that it's important to respect everyone's tastes and opinions. I find that much easier the older I get!

This reminds me of an old saying I often repeat to my children, "If you don't have something good to say, don't say anything."

I like "Don't yuk on my yum" way better, and will use it from now on.

Thanks for sharing!
