Summertime Fun At A Favorite Spot!

Now if this isn't summer, what is?

Three cars and an hour plus of driving delivered us to an old favorite spot: my great uncle's acreage in rural Oregon. This is a special place I've been enjoying spending time at since I was my children's age.

A creek, swimming hole, swinging bridge, trails reaching deep into the woods and even a cave...what is not to love!

On the other side of the bridge is a cave...

...full of old relics.
I recall camping out here one night when much younger than Max.
And I didn't like crossing that swinging bridge at that time, let me tell you!

I can't wait to go back again.

Sneak Peek: Latest Little Adventure & Fall HOF Cover

Oh, what a busy week! Family is still in town from Alaska, with lots of activities on the calendar.

{Max at a favorite spot yesterday, more on this little adventure Friday...}

So while I don't get much done on the work front (isn't that the beauty of summer, more focus on hanging out and less focus on work?!), visit the updated House of Fifty website and get a sneak peek of the Fall cover.

Lots of great stuff, we can't wait to share!

A Fun & Eclectic Approach To Decorating A London Home

This eclectic and cozy home belonging to Sisley executive Christine D'Ornano is located in London's Notting Hill and was recently featured in Elle Decor Spain.

I was really drawn to its fun mix of pattern and color. I wish I could be this brave in decorating my home.
Yellow chairs, a light blue tufted sofa and an vintage Italian light fixture.

Old tiles...

...a table rescued from who knows where paired with bistro chairs.

And bedroom walls upholstered with a fabric from Osborne & Little.

I've got one major room left in my house to decorate, the bonus room. I think I'm going to push myself to have a little extra fun with this last room!

A Wreck Found At The Beach & A Visit To Style For Living

Today I'm at Style For Living, participating in Marianne's series, the ABC's of Me.
{Another Seattle Blogger I hope to met soon.}
Make sure to hop on over to visit her blog!

Then, while at the beach, I was intrigued with a small boat that had washed up to shore. In all the years visiting this beach, I've never seen anything quite like it.

Loved the colors and worn paint.

And though it wouldn't get you far in terms of transportation...

...I thought it made for an interesting setting for a photo.

Until a wave reached it, moving it towards the surf. {Taking me by surprise.}

Okay, perhaps not the best idea.
{Good thing the kids weren't around...}

Is Anything Really New & Original When It Comes To Design?

I was hanging out on the beach when I got two separate emails. One from a past client and another from
fellow blogger Autumn, both basically saying, "Hey, have you seen the latest Pottery Barn Kids catalog?"

Ah, no. I'm watching the kids and dogs and the surf. Oh, and checking email thanks to my iPhone.

The client said they could have at least said thanks while Autumn noticed an EERIE similarity.

{photo sent to me from one of my favorite bloggers, Autumn of Design Dump}

 Thanks for the compliment Pottery Barn! Imitation is indeed the highest form of flattery, I say.

Whether the room in PB was actually inspired by Max's room or another, who inspired me? I'm sure I saw something, somewhere, that sparked my imagination.

So while I could repeat Max's sentiments from a situation with his sister:
"IT'S NOT FAIR!!"...

Is anything ever truly original?

Busy Working On...Thank Yous!

It certainly wouldn't be much fun working on House of Fifty without the wonderful team of contributors. So this past weekend I was busy wrapping up little thank you gifts.

And what makes the job of gift wrapping a delight? Pretty supplies!

Sweet thank you cards, detailed little envelopes...

...and Tiffany blue paper.

{all from Target, gotta love that store!}

A big thanks to the House of Fifty fall issue contributors!

Not A Big Surprise & Today I'm At Splendid Willow!

Today I'm at Splendid Willow, participating in Monika's 2 Cents series. Check it out and of these days! {Every time she comes to Portland I'm out of town, so I'm thinking I just may hit the road to Seattle come this fall for a visit!}

And on the Bonus Room Front: No, I'm not surprised. My inbox is not flooded with inquires about my husband's piece of furniture. I may be reduced to posting it for free. Anything, if someone would just PLEASE haul it away for me.

In the meantime, I did come up with a possible solution to fill the area in its place. We are in desperate need of filing space in our home, with two people running businesses from home, personal paperwork and then the two kids! So I found the below filing cabinet and four will just fit in, snugly in a row. (Whereas all the single, wider options I found are 1 1/2 inches too wide at their standard 60 inches.)

Oh well. Topped with a butcher block countertop in walnut, I'm thinking this will not only be a functional solution, but stylish for a decent price.
But before I start ordering, I'm off to edit the Craigslist posting: Free. Any takers?
