Slow Decorating

I've decided it's time to embrace the slow decorating movement...I've looked for a book but can't find one. Do you know of one? I think I first heard about this approach on the Nester's blog. But anyway, after rushing about my house for the last three years getting rooms redone and spruced up, I'm ready for a slower pace.

I like the idea of considering options more thoughtfully, and perhaps saving up money to get an item that I know I'll be thrilled with for years and will stand up to wear and tear. Or waiting until I find just the right item or solution for a space, instead of grabbing what I've found and making do.

Besides..."slow" is about all the time I have to put toward decorating these days! However, I did get one little project complete: The hanging of the wallpaper art.

Got some pictures to hang? You must get a package of OOK picture hanging hardware!
{the best, bar none}

A couple measurements later, the Ikea Ribba frames showcasing colors of the vase wallpaper were hung...

...and pretty straight at that. Or close enough.

I'm loving them. Happy bursts of color & pattern!

And now I'm heading off to the coast with a group of girlfriends for the weekend...
Long overdue, we'll be finding lots to celebrate I'm sure.

Enjoy yours!

  1. I too have started to slow down in the decorating department. I have learned it is much better to really love something and save up for what you want rather than just jump at the first thing which will work. Love your new pictures.

  4. Slow decorating sounds very cool. I'm not sure I'm that patient but I love the idea in theory. I love how the wallpaper prints turned out. Perfect pop of color in that room. BTW - I thoroughly enjoyed the latest issue of House of Fifty. It really is filled with so much inspiration. I've gone back and flipped through it a few more times already and know I will again in the next few weeks. I told someone last night your story of how the magazine came about. It really is an impressive story of how one can make their own dreams come true.

  6. love the art!
I've been slow decorating now for 9 years!!! I didn't know it was a "movement". Just never seem to have enough time or money to do more than one project at a time.

  8. They look great, Janell, and they look straight to me! : ) I have to remind myself to give things time also. Of course, we really need to get a dresser, but I don't want to settle. I want to get one that I really like. Other things I have put off because I'm not quite sure what I want to do, but I know that somewhere along the line I'll see something or a picture that says "that's it!".

  10. I think you're right on with this. In the past few months, I've wondered if I have rushed projects for the sake of my blog--or created projects in stead of being satisfied with things the way they are. I think slow is the way to go, or at least we should all take breaks once in a while so we can see our space with fresh eyes when we come back to working on it!

  14. I didn't know there was a name for that! I must be a slow SELF-decorator too, because I still haven't found the perfect (for me) boots. *sigh*
Love your new pictures. How did you get your same wallpaper pattern in different colors?

  17. Hi Janell, love the prints! And yes, those hooks are the best! After being here for a year and half, we finally hung the FIRST thing - the cuckoo clock - and I asked the hub if he knew where the hook-thingies are. Funny you're writing about them!
