Sometime last spring I was busy working on a few holiday DIY tutorials for HGTV.com. How fun to finally be able to share these projects with you! Even earlier, when working on the Master Bedroom Redesign, I had such a great time making the "M" and "I" Architectural Letters for the art wall that I thought this could become a fun holiday project as well, using letters to spell a word fitting of the season.
Here are the steps to create your own...it couldn't be more easy!
{paper mache letters available at JoAnn Fabrics}
{paper mache letters available at JoAnn Fabrics}

Materials Needed:
- paper mache letters
- tinted primer
- silver metallic paint
- rust-colored acrylic paint
- foam and bristle brushes
- rag
Apply Primer
Brush a layer of primer over letter surfaces, leaving noticeable brush strokes in varying directions. Let dry to the touch.
Apply Metallic Paint
Brush a layer of metallic paint over letter surfaces, leaving noticeable brush strokes in varying directions.
Apply Second Coat of Metallic Paint
Brush on second layer of metallic paint to diffuse rust accents.
Display the Letters
Spell out the season's greetings on a table, mantel or location of your choice to spread a little holiday joy.

Beautiful idea Janell! Thanks so much for sharing!
There is no way to screw this up.
Even I could do this.
Great idea!!! Love it!!!
What type of metallic paint did you use for this awesome project? Also, I adore your house and I'm wondering what color the trim paint in your home is...is it the same SW color as your cabinets or a little lighter? Thanks!
These look fabulous! Can't wait to try this :)
You are SO creative! GOOOOD work! I'd like to try that now.

Great tutorial! I know these would cost at least $30-40 if you bought them at a store!
These are great. Was thinking they would be cute in my son's room. Nice tutorial.

These are sweet!! Thanks for the tutorial-- I'll be trying these out for sure. :)
Great idea Janell. It might be fun for a family project.
I am so making this for the nursery!! Gorgerous!
Very cool and it looks easy too! xo
The cover letter is the real test of your abilities. These letters should be professional cover letters. On the other side, interviewers are very professional; they know what kinds of candidates they want. The architect job application should be very well designed as any building.

So simple but beautiful.
I've always wanted to try something like this and now I know how easy it can be. And good to know those letters are available at Joann. They look great and could be straight from an Anthro catalog.
Very cool! I can't wait to try this!
I've been seeing these letters hop around the web a little bit... they're really great. I'm amazed that you really created the metal look just with paint! Beautiful job.
