Beautiful Kitchen, Yes?
A reader, Kristi, just sent me pictures of her newly updated kitchen and family room. Apparently the update I did in my own kitchen and family room showed her how it would be possible to lighten the look of her rooms. By painting the cabinetry and millwork, replacing the backsplash and countertops, extending hardwood floors and updating hardware and lighting, these spaces were transformed into the kitchen and family room of her dreams!
Before. A very very nice before, but yes, dark.
And after.
Painting the cabinetry and moldings has a tremendous impact, it hardly looks like the same space!
The before family room.
Painting the cabinetry, millwork and walls again brighten and modernize.
Simply gorgeous Kristi! Enjoy your redesigned space!

Wow - it really is quite the transformation! Gorgeous is right!
Looks awesome!! Can we possibly find out what kind of floors they have in their home? I think that is exactly what I have been looking for. Thank you!!
It is incredible what some white paint can do to open up a space! Beautiful work.
What a stunning transformation! I love what a little "tweaking" can do to a space.

How great is that?! I love the power of paint!
Oh my goodness - it looks gorgeous!! I'm knee deep in my kitchen cabinet painting project, and seeing finished spaces like this just leaves me longing to have it DONE! :-)
Your kitchen space was one of my inspirations as well, and I have been back to your blog repeatedly as I have been going through this process. I will be sure to let you know when mine is complete! Soon, very soon!!

That turned out great! Even her furniture looks new. I had to go back & look at the "before" pictures to verify if it was or not.
The power of paint...right?
Huge transformation. I love the lighter and brighter look. Gorgeous.
So fresh and bright looking. The mood of the room is so much better. Way to go and take that leap. Enjoy and thanks for sharing

Oh yes, painting cabinetry IS a huge project, but being so happy with the result in my own home, I'd do it again! Kristi did such an amazing job, she obviously has great style!

That is amazing!!! I had to look at the before/after pictures a million times. Love it.
It looks fabulous! I love the difference painting cabinets can make in a kitchen.
LOVE the after! And that church pew (at least thats what it looks like) looks great! Is that tiger wood? Am I saying that right?
Love the brightness of the two spaces now!

Such a beautiful redesign! I love that kitchen pendant and the touches of orange and turquoise in the family room. Breathe taking!
Holy smokes that is a beautiful transformation. I love the lighting she chose and the hardware. So pretty. Especially love the church bench and the piece behind the couch. Ads so much life and character.
Thanks for the kind comments. It truly is my dream space now. I’m thankful my hubby let me take on this project! It was not easy with two 5 yr olds and a 4 yr old, BUT, so worth it! Paint made the biggest transformation, I used Benjamin Moore White Dove. Granite is Absolute Black Honed, backsplash is Walker Zanger and hardwoods are oak sanded and scraped in home (yes, I was neck deep in dust!). I only purchased 1 piece of furniture- a slipcover loveseat. I recovered a chair with a slipcover (fabric from lsfabrisc.com) - I’m practical with 3 kiddos. My pops of color are from pillows (Quadrille, Fabric Factory Dallas, Trina Turk), lamp (TJMaxx), throw (Ikea), painting (gift from Grand Cayman Ritz). I added glass and lighting to my kitchen cabinets (and lighting to cabinets in living) to give the kitchen “windows” since it’s so closed in. Pendant is from Ballard design and hardware in kitchen from Kiva Dallas. I also splurged on a stainless farmhouse sink and Rohl bridge faucet(which I LOVE and would do all over again). Janell was so gracious to answer my questions on painting cabinets/molding. She is so talented and inspired me to tackle this big of a project! On to the next project…. Dining room ☺
What an amazing job!! The lighter paint shows off how beautiful the cabinets and trim work really are! I'd love to know the source for those really cool bar stools.
INcredible! Wish so badly I could talk my parents into painting their circa early 90s oak cabinetry *sigh*
Love the transformation! It's always amazing what a little paint can do!
Woooooah! That is GORGEOUS!! I love it!
It looks unbelievably different. Gorgeous, gorgeous!
I'll be dreaming of that kitchen tonight!!

it's always great to see what a little imagination and some paint can do.

I agree with Janell --my sister does have great style! In person it is so very lovely! I can't decide what my favorite part of the transformation is-love it all!!!
WOW! This is a great example of the power of white paint! Anyone who's been sitting on the fence about painting out their wood will be swayed by this one!
Fantastic transformation!! Wow. White makes everything better :)
Wonderful transformation on the kitchen and family room! Love the kitchen stools and bench as well, both have so much character!

Spectacularly done. Well thought out (being Mom to three small fry, you're clearly good at logistics and thinking through the consequences of your decisions!) and the before-and-afters confirm what a tremendous bang you got for the buck. Really lovely, and in a *livable* way, which is REALLY saying something, in my book. Congratulations, Kristi!
Does she have a tutorial ? It's simple beautiful.
Stella
No, she doesn't have a blog, but if you click on the link over my kitchen and family redesign there is a lot of information about painting cabinetry.
Janell
Thank you !! I will be clicking over that direction.

Thank you for all the sweet comments on my space, I find decorating therapeutic :) My biggest suggestion on a project like this is to research, research, research and plan, plan, plan! :) Oh, and make sure you have somewhere to escape for 2 weeks during the major painting and flooring going in :) If you have any other questions, feel free to ask here and I will do my best to respond.
Your kitchen space was one of my inspirations as well, My kitchen work is ending process and Hope it will be complete more than three weeks soon. Your work is too good.
