Who Doesn't Appreciate A Shout Out From Apartment Therapy?

Before & After: Janell Nails a New Style on a Plain Chair

"There's no denying that this is a delightful chair as-is. With its classic straight lines and neutral fabric, the chair is a great piece that already looks incredible in Janell's home office. Still, it couldn't hurt to add one more little touch…"

Thanks for featuring this chair update on AT Jason!
Who doesn't love some shout-out love from Apartment Therapy.

Just as long as you don't bother to read the comments, that is.

I love the chair with the nail heads. Great detail. Congrats on the AT feature. I read the comments, WOW, there's some harsh critics out there. How about, if you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything. Just saying!

Wow love it!! What a beautiful enhancement!!! Thats great recognition! I am going to read the comments, as now I am intrigued. Some just never have something nice to say but there is no way to not say this is beautiful!

I've learned the hard way too about not reading the AT comments ;) Great job on the chair Janine.

I don't read AT comments either, and I'm just a reader not a contributor :) They get me very annoyed, harsh!

Why do people even bother commenting if they have nothing nice to say? Ugh. I think it looks great. And I love your blog! Keep up the awesome work!

The national attention is great, and Jason liked it or he wouldn't have posted. You have to rest in the approval of your fans that love you. When I saw this chair the first time, it gave me the idea of doing it on my new sofa. Haven't done it yet, but you'll be the first to know!

Yes, the comments can get you down if you let them, but I don't. The first time however, it drove me crazy. They had featured my decorating with children's art, and from the response in the comments you'd think I was trying to pass of my children's artwork as masterpieces by Picasso! I couldn't refrain and left a comment, something to the effect, well Oprah liked it enough to feature it in her magazine, so there! I've since learned it only makes me feel worse if I listen to criticism and respond!

I think it just shows how much of style is about personal taste. In general, I think people are much kinder when they know they're commenting on your own blog, rather than somewhere like AT.

Boy, that completely transformed that chair. Love what she did.

The power of nailhead trim! It looks great and you get a huge thumbs up from me. As for Apartment Therapy, WHAT is up with the comments? It's an established culture there, I guess. But whoa, I don't think I'd have to stomach for it.

Your chair looks wonderful, Janell! You've taken it to beautiful to even more beautiful with a touch of pizazz! What a great job you did with the nail head trim. I admire you for your attitude with the comments. I popped over to AT. It's sad people have to be that way.

It seems to me that often harshest critics never put themselves out there so that they would be subject to the same critique. Janell - I really appreciate the creativity you share with us. I really like the nailhead trim.

great job on the chair - looks amazing. comments schmomments (that comment is applicable to AT commenters only obviously :) ).

Beautiful job! I am absolutely crazy for nailhead trim so I am going to have try this next time I have a piece that needs a little more detailing! Negative commenters are probably negative people so who needs them anyway?!? ;)

Great work and great feature! You have to wonder about these people that actually make the time in their day to leave a negative comment- how awful their life must be to have time for such nonsense! BTW, what have they had featured lately?? Ugghh! Keep up the good work!

I've never really read the comments before on AT- those folks truly do take snarky to a new level! What's the adage, "if you can't say something nice...."

courtneyoutloud said...

AT really needs to do something about that because I noticed that last year. The comments section has become a big mean snark fest. Let it roll off your back -- you know that it as done to your tastes and you love it. That is all that matters....

I've never understood why people hide behind the internet to leave nasty comments about other people & their hard work! I think it's a great change and wow, you must have a steady hand to have accomplished that trim! Kudos.

Great job!
Don't pay any attention to the AT commenters...I'm sure most of them aren't attempting fabulous projects like yours!

You got my curiosity up and I went and read the AT comments. Then I read the comments from the negative people that they commented on other posts...they tend to just post neagtive comments on all posts. It seems that they are pretty much negative people with a chip on their shoulder. It is so easy to hide behind a computer screen. Great job on the chair by the way!

Loving it! I'd love to use this on my dining chairs, which I need to amp up the volume on. Can you tell me which nail heads have you used and where can I buy them?

So pretty and congrats on the feature. They ate me alive over there but I just decided to move on :) Good for you!

I, too, have survived the harsh criticism of AT. It sure does taint the excitement of the shout out. You've done amazing work and it's a testament to how a little detail can really transform the look and feel of a piece. I love the nailhead trim. Nice job.

diyphilosopher said...

Yeah, what is it with the AT comments? They are generally just plain mean - it almost turns me off of the site, except the posts are so much fun if you don't scroll down! I have loved this chair makeover for a while now, and can't wait to try it on something of mine. You are so creative!
