A Tribute To A Wonderful Man: Tom Sanberg

I'm taking a moment away from posts on design and other topics to honor a wonderful man, Tom Sanberg, who passed away this past Sunday.

Tom (pictured at left) was the wonderful father of Mory, the little girl I helped to take care of years ago in Chicago. I may have been the nanny, but Tom, along with his wife Lora and the extended family, treated me as if I were family. They taught me so much about what I hoped to have someday with a family of my own, and Tom was a strong father figure to me during the many years I lived away from my own family.

My heart goes out to Lora (in gray above) who was and has continued to be my "Chicago Mom", a wonderful supporter of me ever since meeting in 1987. (And oh, did she try endlessly to set me up with some well-to-do man, so she could stop worrying about me!)

And my heart goes out to Mory. She was adored by her father, he championed her wishes and dreams and nothing was too good for his beautiful and talented daughter Mory.

He set a wonderful example while living a full life, he will be missed and remembered.

  2. Yes Janell, a very sweet post. I usually don't know what to say in events like these, but how blessed were you to be able to have what seems to be such an awesome man and family in your life!

I can only hope that the words used by my loved ones to describe me after my passing are as sweet and heartfelt as the ones you used here to describe Tom.

Sending a hug your way my friend...

  4. Every once in a while we are lucky to meet people who are selfless, intelligent, fun and wise. You are indeed lucky to have had him in your life and a lot of who he was is now a lot of who you are. We are all shaped by those who share their lives with us and they sound like a wonderful family.

There aren't too many of us around! Thank you for this post. I lost my 22 yr old son two years ago in a kayaking accident. Death is a reminder for us to live and enjoy each day! Thank you for sharing. Prayers to you and the family. Tom looks like an amazing man and obviously he had an amazing family and great friends. Cheers to Tom in eternity!
