A week ago the little alcove in the bonus room housed this.
(And if you are wondering, an explanation of how that object came to reside in our house is in this post!)
Then these arrived from Overstock.com...
...four fitting in just perfectly!
I also picked up a couple cans of Benjamin Moore's Rockies Brown paint.
A delicious shade of dark bitter chocolate and a perfect match with The Vase Wallpaper.
And in case you think I've been on a painting frenzy, sorry...I've got a ways to go.
But in the meantime, that lamp just has to go!
Perhaps a little Ikea number?
It's white, it would pop against the dark walls, plus...it's on sale!

Those file cabinets look as though they were made for that space. Don't you love it when things work out like that? Haven't seen the Ikea lamp before, but I like it.
Happy weekend!
Were you able to sell the old shelving unit on Craigslist?
Will you be putting a countertop on the filing cabinets? Where is the beautiful wallpaper going? Aren't your walls texured? How do you hang wallpaper on textured walls?
So many questions! Do I seem like a 2 year old?
Starting to look good! Love the wallpaper and can't wait to see it in installed!
Isn't it amazing how just a perfect fit can make all the difference in the world? Looking forward to the final reveal. Mona
Forgot to mention that I'm in love with the wallpaper. That battle was worth winning.
Yes, I need to find a "countertop" to run over the top of the filing cabinets, there are about 25 more projects before this room is complete. It is in its awkward stage at the moment and will be there for awhile! But, eventually! Janell
It's looking amazing as do all of your rooms/projects. I look forward to reading your blog everyday. Thank you for all the inspiration.
Now you've really got me feeling curious! Glad I'm not the only one who's looking at double-digit projects before something is "done".
Happy Friday!
i agree... that lamp would look nice against that wall color.
oooh love that lacquer lamp look with your new paper! you have such a good eye. BTdubs, I love the sneak peak of your pup in the pics :)
Looking good! That lamp will look great!
Ugh, I'm painting too. Seems like it's taking forever! Glad to know that I'm not alone! ;o). Love your alcove!
That paint color is fabulous! I love the dark chocolate color and think it will be beautiful with the wall paper. And the lamp from IKEA is great too.
Getting excited for this room!! I can not believe your luck with the file cabinets! For real!
Janell that is absolutely amazing that the file cabs fit perfectly. When we did the reading nook in the playroom we had a bear of a time getting something to fit, we finally had to make it ourselves. I am loving the direction of your room, Great find at Ikea, I just love shopping there, it is so fun!! Kathysue
That is a great solution for that nook. I love that wallpaper and that lamp.
Those file cabinets fit perfectly in that nook, what a fabulous find! And I love that white Ikea floor lamp, so modern and chic, which is totally my decorating style! Love your selections. Looking forward to see future projects and progress.
Happy weekend, Janell!

Can't wait to see the wallpaper up! The paint color looks great too!
With white walls/neutral being the allure, I love how you've chosen such a dark color it's refreshing to see something different. I personally like color on my walls. Can't wait to see how you coordinate with window treatments. By the way, lovely wallpaper...
I'm so excited about your walls being brown!!!!! I thought I was going to be the only personal let in blogland with dark walls! I had that lamp for project I did at the shelter, but it didn't work out. Can't wait to see what's to come in this room. Please add red somewhere!
Priscilla and Lakeitha,
I know, I thought about that, but you know, my house looks better with color on the walls. Being new construction, leaving the walls paler makes it feel "builder grade" without much character, but as soon as I add color the millwork that is in the house around windows and door frames stand out, which makes the house feel like it does have at least some detailing!
