In Search of Sunny Skies & Heat

Much of our summer has been filled with gray skies and cool weather. In case you don't know, I Depend on being able to soak up all the heat during long hot summers to get through our gloomy wet winters. If you live in the NW, you know what I am talking about!!

So I've finally given up, packed up the kids and boarding a plane to Texas. I did hear on the news they are having the hottest summer around, so off we go.

And yes, if you live where it has been hot for months you're thinking I'm crazy. But trust me, you don't want me getting grumpy beginning around mid-October.

{recent Texas trip}

This should be me, right about now. Happiness.

  4. Growing up in Idaho, I know just what you are talking about! We live in NC now, so we don't have the long winters anymore. But I do miss the summer in the NW at times - or maybe it is the Sawtooth Mountain Range....

  5. House swap, next year Mary!

And too funny, we get here and step out of the airport into a big rainstorm, first one in the area in weeks. Guess I brought it with us!

JW Marriott Hill Country, it's becoming a favorite destination. Janell

  7. I know just how you feel Janell. I need a good handful of 100+ degree days and scorching sun or else it doesn't quite feel like summer. Its already starting to get cool here in Toronto and I feel like I haven't even really broken out in a good summer sweat yet. Hope you found the heat in Texas!

  8. I will gladly change places with you. Alabama is miserably hot right now.

  9. oh, mama! i echo kai. we live near fort worth and have had 100+ degree temps for too long now. fortunately, we have a pool, but even the pool water isn't refreshing at this point. i long for cooler temps (like low 90s!!) so my kids can go outside and play!

on the other hand, i do remember the *4 FULL DAYS* in a row we were snowed in this past february and we all thought we were going to go crazy! :)

  11. In South Louisiana, we have more hot humid days than anything else. It's funny because we try to fly away to cooler climates. Maybe we should house swap for a few weeks. Lol. We hope you enjoy your time in Texas soaking up the heat!

  12. As gorgeous as the NW is, I've come to rely on so much sunshine. Thanks for bringing the rain...it's been ages! Don't worry, it'll be plenty hot and sunny the rest of your trip!

    Have fun, y'all! ;)

  13. I hear you! What a summer we have had here on the west. Have fun soaking up the sun :)

  14. Isn't we should just be thankful for what we have everyday?... Love Texas too specially Austin.

  15. Here in Houston it is so hot this summer, yes. But in our short winters here, when the days are grey and cloudy for weeks sometimes, I always crave these sunny hot days. At least we can go out in the moring and evening and swim in the day. And of course there is always lots of sun shining through our windows.
Have fun down here and be ready to get your sun and heat fix!

  16. This post made me laugh because right about now I want the temperature to drop 30 degrees and rain for a week!

  17. I cannot be the only person living in Texas whishing for cooler weather or a thunderstorm for that matter. It's hard to believe that it's cooler in other parts of the country. Enjoy the heat, we have plenty to share!

  18. It is beautiful and 92 today in Coeur d Alene Idaho. Just a quick drive across state:)

  19. Yep. It's blazin' hot in Dallas. I usually love summers, but this year I am so ready for Fall. Bring on the 90 degree temps!

  20. Yes - I totally think you're crazy right now. I can't WAIT for some cloudy cooler and gloomy weather. Is it possible to be tired of the sunshine? Yes... I think so. Especially when it's been over 100 degrees since early June with nighttime temps only getting down to the mid-80's. It's so hot outside, your skin feels like it's burning just walking out to your car!

So yes, I do think you're a little crazy!

But you know what they say, the grass is always greener... Hope you guys have a wonderful time down here!

  22. You already know how I'm feeling about our heat! Gah, its so hot here! I wouldn't mind being in Portland right about now. When can I come visit?!

    Have fun! NO WORKING:)

  23. Enjoy the break and safe travels...I love the sun and even the heat but not the humidity...fall is a welcome season as its so beautiful but I am really a summer gal at heart!

  24. I love that you love Texas!! Always happy to share all the good things, and if you want the heat, you can have it! Bottle it up, Take it home and send some more of that rain! I got about 5 minutes worth, and it evaporated up within 30 min! Have a great time in the hill country....It's the best!

  25. I just must be made for the heat, spent the day at the pool with temps nearing 100, yet still had goose bumps when getting into the water, enjoyed an early dinner outdoors and avoiding the over air-conditioned interiors. Prediction, at some point I will move to a warmer locale!

But, on the topic of weather, if you live along the eastern coast, my thoughts are with you and I trust the storm passes without incident.

  26. We tried to escape our heat (Dallas) and went to Florida. The week we were there they had record heat wave! UGGG!! But at least we were at the beach :) I'm so ready for Fall. The Hill Country is beautiful - the perfect Texas spot - enjoy!

  27. Awesome girl! I love how you're able to escape, bravo my friend, enjoy the heat!

  29. I agree completely! I live in the northeast and hate, hate, hate the cold and snow which makes my bones ache and keeps everyone indoors! The year the average temp. in the summer was 70-something was awful! Next year I will be free to and plan to spend at least Jan and Feb in Florida!

  30. I live in the Pacific NW so I know EXACTLY what you are talking about. Last year was the same . . . not enough sun and warm weather to consider it a summer. It's going to be along winter. I'm glad one of us was able to soak in some sun.

  31. I know exactly how you feel - 4 years in rainy Ireland had me grumpy too much of the time! I'm loving the sunshine in Dubai (though not the extreme heat) but at least I wake up smiling as I open my drapes and see the sun outside. Enjoy your holiday and soak it up!! :)

  32. Yeah, it's hot here, but it's still Texas, and that's home to me. My dream is to live in the Pacific NW only because you never have heat like we do. It's relentless this year.
    I'm smiling at this post...

  33. We're getting a hurricane in MA! Right after tremors from an earthquake last week. WEIRD weather

  34. Have fun in the Lone Star State! Lived there for twenty years before moving to a small town in Oregon-but we are on the high desert, so we don't get the gloom/rain for as long as you do.

We are on vaca right now in NYC...unfortunately, so is this Irene character! She has closed all subways/trains/bridges, Broadway, museums, shopping and etc. Good thing all the diners/food places are open...and the local nail place was a fun surprise that we took advantage of this AM.

We are supposed to leave Tuesday, but may stay a day extra just to make up what we are missing right now-but we are embracing the chaos and enjoying what we can!

  35. hmmm. earthquake, hurricane and twins off to college...I think I need to "chill out" for a bit....

  36. I'm dreading the NW fall and winter already. I don't want to leave CA to come back to Washington for school. Too. Cold.
Have a blast in Texas! Soak up the sun (:

  37. One thing that is for certain in Texas is that you will get warm, sunny days in the Summer. They are endless. We live in Dallas now, but when we lived in Austin I would make frequent trips out to the Hill Country just to poke around. Take your kids to Enchanted Rock, it is a scream. Make way for armadillo.
    Have fun.
