Finally, I've Won A Battle With My Frugal Side!

I've been seriously deeply in love with this wallpaper pattern for years.

The Vase by David Hicks

Thinking this wallpaper might be a great starting point for the bonus room design, Susie of Maddie G Designs arranged to have all the colorways sent to me!

Nearly like opening a present on Christmas morning.

After a wrestling match with Ms. Frugal, I came out on top and promptly placed an order for the above.

Though tempted by Red, I opted for the Taupe and headed off to the paint store to select a color for the surrounding walls.

I'm so excited to get this project off to such an inspiring start. Now let the painting begin!

Ohhh la la! I really like this pattern too! If you've liked it for years, no reason Ms. Frugal should butt in!

Is your family on board with your design plan?
I assume you are doing just 1 wall with the fabulous wallpaper. I think that's still being frugal. So don't beat yourself up too much.

SO beautiful! It's good to make a splurge purchase once in a while!!

That's gorgeous! Think of the money you'll save by not buying wallpaper you hate, or repainting over and over. (I'm perfecting the art of making splurges seem logical.) :) Can't wait to see it up!

I agree with Jana, I think you should frame the other samples for wall art in another room :) They are just beautiful! This is going to be such a stylin room!

Great choice. I have to battle with Mrs frugal at times also. Cant wait to see the room completed.

Okay, seriously, I love the idea of using the samples somewhere. When my wallpaper guy shows up to hang the paper in the bonus room I'm going to ask him about using the samples. Wouldn't that be too fun, somewhere! Janell

Janell - this is genious, thanks for sharing your resource. i was trying desperately (last night!) to figure out how to order some sample wallcoverings, and Im gonna try out Maggie D. Do you know which vendor/mfg you got the David Hicks from? Would love to see if they have the La Fiorentina grasscloth...

My mother has always told me that in a year you won't remember what it cost, but you will remember if you settled. Good for you getting what you love. Sometimes you have to lock Ms. Frugal in the closet while you make the call for the good stuff!!

I LOVE this wallpaper ever since I saw the yellow version in a kitchen online! Sigh... This bonus room is going to be amazing!

I adore it! I inherited valances made out of it when I bought my first house (they were in a bay window in the kitchen). At the time I did not know what the pattern was, but LOVED it. Brings back memories for me! M.

SOOOO pretty! And now you know you'll love it for a long time! I'm so guilty of buying things and then being "over it" a year later. The hubby does NOT appreciate that part of me! I can't wait to see pictures of the finished product!

You won't be disappointed! The chocolate brown is stunning as well.
I have alway found when you love something you go with it no matter what other wise no matter what you do it will fall short and you will always remember that more expensive item that you didn't go with. I spent 2 years looking for a fabric for my mudroom bench...found an Eric Kohler..by the time I was done with the down and feather cushion it cost me $1000-I eventually went with it and it was the best decision! So go with what you love and save somewhere else! Enjoy it!

You have my curiosity peaked. I hope that curiosity doesn't kill this Kat, just kidding. Congrats on getting Kim Myles on board with House of Fifty. I showed the magazine and your blog to my dad. He is an interior designer and I wanted to show that even after 50 you are encouraging other women to not give up. He is 83 and always thinking of new ideas in their home. I'm going to have him help me with a few projects in my room. :)

Seriously, this is going to look amazing! I would have chosen the same taupe option. Can't wait to see how it looks put up.
Also, just wanted to let you know how much I loved this issue of House of Fifty - I took the time to sit down with a tea and savour each page. Awesome job!! :)

Definitely worth the splurge, Janell. Love the color you chose...timeless and elegant ~

I really like your selection Janell. I know it is hard to take the leap with more expensive design elements. I get plain giddy when I open a box of samples and practically give myself an ulcer trying to decide which one to use. I tell myself it is an investment and I will have it in my house forever. LOVE the new issue of HOF! Congrats on having Kim Myles as a contributor too!
