What Was He Thinking & How Did I Let It Happen?!

Looking at the below curiosity, is it no wonder it's taken me years to let my husband have an opinion in the decorating process again? I listened once, when we moved into our first home, and this is what happened. Unfortunately, it has followed us to two more homes.

I have no words...

...except to say I've finally convinced the guilty party to allow it to be listed on Craigslist.

Once it's gone, this recessed area in the bonus room can be put to better use. What potential, filling the space with a filing cabinet providing a ton of storage and perhaps shelving placed above?

Something more along these lines for the cabinet would make me very happy!

I only hope there is one other person in the world, preferably near us, whose taste is line with the Mr.'s from several years ago.

My husband thinks he should have an opinion about design in our home too. Why can't they just trust us? :)

Hahaha...this is what happens when you let husbands have their say! My husband bought a crazy red and black lounge chair from Ikea when he moved to IL while I was in NC and now, I have no idea how to incorporate them in my decor! I wanted to spray paint the black frame but he wouldn't let me. Problem is, it's his favorite chair in the house! Double sigh!

That's a victory for you - It looks like a perfect state before and after setup - Can't wait to see how it turns out!

We all have items in our house that we wonder "How did I allow this to come in??"

Too funny :)

You'd be surprised, Janell! I listed a desk that was my son's {that was of his choosing} and it went rather quickly. I was worried it wouldn't go, but - poof - gone in two days.

Yikes! My husband took me to bed bath and beyond a little while ago to show me a "really nice ottoman" It was one of those brown leather numbers with a tan and brown tray with storage underneath. Can't help but smile at them before you walk away!

wow -- that is an interesting piece lol
Yay for being able to use the space to its potential!

Janell, I can't wait to see what you will do with that area. So much potential. Thank goodness, my hubby usually listens to what I think when it comes to decorating. He has been well trained :)

wow - I can see though how a husband might love that piece of furniture. Kinda space agey!

I've been stuck with a big, puffy, Lazy Boy recliner. He picked it out on his own also. I would love to sell it on Craigslist. He needs to go away for a week so I can make that happen.

I dated a guy who was a computer guru who thought he should make design decisions with me. I told him I'd let him make design decisions when he let me build out his computer. He shut up!

It looks like something you might see on the Jetsons. Interesting but definitely not your style. Can't wait to see what you do.

LOL, my husband chose an equally unattractive stand for our components in our home theater. I learned from that experience that I can never let him shop solo. (I have no doubt that there is some single guy out there who will love that piece!)

Yes, men have strange ideas about decor. NEVER let him shop alone :)
I love your inspirational image!

Oh, that's funny!! I get mad at myself EVERY SINGLE TIME I treck up and down the stairs with dirty and then clean laundry. Why did I ever let my husband say he wanted the laundry room downstairs??? HE NEVER DOES LAUNDRY!!! He wasn't making a ton of decisions with the house and he really wanted to make that one ... I should have given him something else instead. :o)))) I pay for the decision weekly!!!

I think you should paint it like a space ship and sell it for $1000. It could make s cool desk for a boys room if you did that!

Ha! Not sure what men are thinking most of the time! I can see where a bank of file cabinets can be much more useful.

Haha, it looks like it should be blasting off for outerspace soon :).

We have a few of those pieces in our house from before we were married...thank goodness I caught him before he had a lot of furniture.

Ha! I almost spit coffee out my nose reading this post. Luckily my husband has no real love of design and I do all the shopping other wise we'd probably be getting this.

Tee Hee, I'm glad my hubby just nods and says yes dear, I can only imagine what he would come up with.

OMG, the fact that is closes like that made me laugh. I have some of these things in my house, that have moved across the country and back. I try to come up with covert plans to facilitate their removal.

Great inspiration image!

My husband likes to tell everyone that he didn't know he had ugly furniture until he married me. Every piece of seating in his living room reclined! He even picked out the fabric that was on the DOUBLE RECLINING sofa as a special order.
Congratulations on finally parting with your cabinet thing. I hope it finds a good home quickly!

Janell...hilarious! My husband would pick something even worse!

Ah! I can see my husband picking out something just like this! I trust his opinion on so many things but in the end it's just best if I have the final word when it comes to decor! :) Thank goodness for wives...

that thing is horrible! - I'm stuck with two pair of black speakers in my living room that are just a monstrosity . He just bought them while I was out of town. How did you convince him. Please help!!

Too funny! It happens to the best of us...the only thing to do is to learn from your mistakes and sell that thing cheap as you can on Craigslist!

Oh my...don't even get me started on my husband! I've learned to not even ask his opinion anymore!

I just keep looking at the picture with the "thing" all buttoned-up and closed...and your caption.
"I have no words" ...

I couldn't look away...LOL! I was wondering if I'd not seen it opened first...what might POP out of it!

OH, no! run away-- it's a pod=person from mars in there! ...
Now I've told my age...

running away now... laughing hysterically.

I for one Hope you find another who thinks it's as WAY COOL as your hubby did.

Really cute filing cabinets and storage by Martha Stewart (in similar color to pic) in the Home Decorators catalog. I know, their stuff is usually cheesy-did your husband get that desk there?-but this stuff is cute and the size would probably work in your nook.

I don't have to worry about my husband's taste because he can think of no reason to get something new. When we got married almost all our furniture was a handmedown or it was from our childhood. 23 years later we haven't bought much more. I was excited when I got to decorate the nursery, but it still had hand me down stuff.

When we got married I made him get a new mattress. He said there is nothing wrong with it, my Grandpa had the mattress redone 40 years ago. I was having severe back and neck problems and we had to get a new mattress. Yikes!

I have a new bedroom set because I over heard someone, who was remodeling her house, if anyone needed one. I took it sight unseen since she had money and good taste. lol

I love that - my boyfriend is the same way. Just say no. :)

My hubby would totally pick something like that too! I tease him that his look is "technical" (he is a techie after all) - it drives me bonkers!
