Summertime Fun At A Favorite Spot!

Now if this isn't summer, what is?

Three cars and an hour plus of driving delivered us to an old favorite spot: my great uncle's acreage in rural Oregon. This is a special place I've been enjoying spending time at since I was my children's age.

A creek, swimming hole, swinging bridge, trails reaching deep into the woods and even a cave...what is not to love!

On the other side of the bridge is a cave...

...full of old relics.
I recall camping out here one night when much younger than Max.
And I didn't like crossing that swinging bridge at that time, let me tell you!

I can't wait to go back again.

It looks heavenly! you really have me missing our Muskoka place right now - getting out into nature, kayaking down the river, watching ducks and listening to loons...I'd trade this sand in a heartbeat to be there right now.

how great that you get to bring your kids to a place that you grew up visiting and exploring. i would have been ALL OVER that cave when i was a kid! i have three brothers, so i was *kinda forced into being a tomboy...but the cave + the bridge + a swimming hole? we would have all been in heaven. glad you had a fabulous time.

Yep, that is pure summer, isn't it? Looks like a wonderful place to have grown up. Your kids are lucky to have that opportunity as well.

These photos brought back memories of growing up near the Oregon border in Idaho. We could even tube the Boise River in the great city of Boise, but our favorite times we spent doing what described above (with lots of bowls of fresh cherries everywhere). I wanted to highly recommend picking up Lynn Reiser's Tomorrow on Rocky Pond at your local library ~ it has a way of taking you back, even if you are home. xoxo michele

How gorgeous, Janell. The scenery is just beautiful. How special and sentimental to be able to share your childhood memories now with your children. It looks like a great spot to unwind, relax and just not worry about anything for awhile. Not sure I would be brave enough to cross that bridge! Happy weekend to you.

How awesome. That's the quintessential summertime experience. I just visited Portland for the first time last week and fell in love. Next trip is to the coast for sure.

There is nothing like a family summer vacation! But...you would have to drug me to cross that bridge...my family always makes fun of me because I am so afraid of heights and turn into a real weenie :)

What a great childhood memory that you are creating for your kids! For many years we used to take our 4 daughters to Mackinaw Island in Michigan and now they are in their twenties and still talk about those amazing summers and how they want to take their own children there. Traditions and just old fashioned summer is always priceless and fondly remember after all is said and done.
