Road Trip: Part 3

We're back home, after many many hours in the car yesterday! But it was worth it, as the time in San Francisco and the surrounding area was both relaxing and a lot of fun! Here's the last of the tour...

Another fun aspect of touring Alcatraz is the collection of movie posters of films in which Alcatraz was a
featured character.

Before heading out of the city for the last couple of days of the trip, we visited Fort Mason and the wonderful Greens Restaurant. I highly recommend it!

On our way to Bodega Bay to visit family, we stopped at Muir Woods. It's amazing that so close to the city you can find yourself in a forest such as this. Then we had a great time along the coast, the beach at Bodega Bay was stunning and I'm kicking myself for not taking any photos. Finally, we ended the evening with friends in Mill Valley. You would have loved seeing their house, but I decided to be a gracious guest instead of snapping away!

Finally, last stop Calistoga. Max stopped to hang a note on a Gratitude Tree, and what he wrote surprised me and made me happy!

Too soon it was the last night. We swam in the natural hot springs pool late into the night and warmed up by the fire. It wasn't easy to get into the car the next morning! But thankfully there was less complaining on the way home than there had been on the drive down. It got me to thinking where we might head off to next time!

We went to the Alcatraz tour while we were in SF (several years ago) too. It was fun but the queue was a little annoying. We went there very early and it was super windy and the queue was extremely long. I remembered we waited for almost 2 hours just to get in. Do you have to wait that long to get in? We visited Muir Woods, too and it was beautiful. I love what Max wrote, he's very sweet.

Swimming in the hot spring pool sounds great! I am glad you have a wonderful time and great trip.

Happy 4th of July weekend, Janell.

We had to wait in line at the crack of dawn to get tickets...because we didn't plan ahead! But once we had the tickets there was no waiting. The weather was unseasonably great, virtually no wind and sunny skies, and the crowds weren't bad. I've been during rainy weather, however, and yes, it simply wasn't as pleasant!

Looks like an amazing trip. My daughter has decided to become vegetarian and I was just telling her that my favourite meal of all time was at The Greens. I've been using their cookbook and it was an amazing treat to get a chance to eat there.
