Now This Is A Kitchen!

The other day while driving I was doing a little daydreaming, thinking about how great it would be to one day build a custom home. Wish number one?  A kitchen which would be open to the surrounding rooms, yet more enclosed than the current open concept trend. I wasn't exactly certain what this layout would look like, but I also knew I'd have a lot of time to figure it out.

Then during an a bike ride and picnic with a friend and all our kids, she mentioned how much she loves Urban Grace. I hadn't stopped by in awhile, so later I paid a visit. And what did I find?! The solution. This is what I was conceptualizing but couldn't visualize.

Open, yet enclosed.
Not to mention divine with fresh color, unique tile and the lovely combination of marble with nickle fixtures.

I mentioned this design find to my husband that night during a walk with the family & dog.
He didn't have a whole lot to say...but was probably thinking, "aren't you happy with what you have?!"

Yes, I am.
But a girl (no matter the age) should always dream!

I could spend all day in this space and THAT'S sayin' something! Gorgeous. Love the "open separation" concept.
Thanks, Janelle!

Thank you for introducing me to my dream/inspiration kitchen... that perfect cabinet color plus marble plus gorgeous pattern above the stove!! I could probably DIY that with some stencil + paint and then afix a piece of clear glass over it to protect its fabulousness!

LOVE this kitchen! I think anyone would dream of a space like this in their home. I also love how open it is, but still it's own space.

P.S. What paint color was used on the cabinets?

That's one beautiful kitchen. I like the idea of having a bit of separation from the kitchen and family room too. No harm in dreaming!

Love the colour on the cabinets, love the wood floors, love the island that doubles as a table.
Beautiful!

Well, this is certainly a lot prettier than those cut-outs they put in walls between the kitchen and whatever is on the other side. Love the color on the cabinets!

Beautiful! I, too, have open concept and at times, wish it was enclosed somewhat. This is a perfect, gorgeous solution!

This is a truly beautiful kitchen! Like you, I love how it provides a separation yet it's open to other areas in the home. Definitely a dream home material. Thanks for sharing!

I love this kitchen! But to be honest I could never build a house...I do not have the patience for every tiny decision and all the waiting around for the various trades people to show up.

I totally agree about dreams...I dream to one day own a little cottage on a loch in Scotland, my husband dreams of us living on a sailboat. Hmm, I am sure there is a compromise there somewhere.

Have a great day!

I have been a long time reader of Urban Grace. If I had a lot of money I would give Erika the keys to my home & tell her to call me when she's done with it.

Oh the things I could make in that kitchen !

Love it! I also prefer a kitchen that isn't so open to the family room, but is still part of the action. Very hard to come by these days!

What a stunning space and a stunning home. That kitchen is truly the hub of the home both literally and figuratively! I love it!

I LOVE kitchens like this. You'd have to build it though.:( They need better designers to build homes!

I find myself doing the exact same thing, I just mentioned replacing our less than a year old back splash with a new tile I've become obsessed with since we remodeled the kitchen.

It really is a perfect solution - still open but not on show. I'm loving the island - it's making me miss our island with the marble, nickel, farmer's sink and aqua colour! :)

This is great and I agree on it being a great compromise of open vs. enclosed!

Love it. Went to blog, couldn't find it. Any idea what the paint color is? My kitchen is in bad need of a repaint.
Thanks,
debi

No, I don't know the specific paint color, though with the endless options out there you should be able to find a match. Good luck and sorry I didn't have an answer for you!

My husband and I were in this house last year for a parade of homes and I have mentioned this kitchen (and many things from the rest of this house) to my husband over many walks, evenings on the couch and trips in the car. It has become my favorite way to break the silence. This house, from top to bottom, is really beautiful.

Wow, this space is gorgeous! The layout is perfection. I just did a post yesterday on my obsession with mint green interiors- especially in kitchens!

Hi Janell! I too ADORE this design/layout/color combination. I like the concept of an open kitchen, but really do like a little more purpose to the space and the visual cues that suggest enclosure are fabulous!! Thanks for sharing! This is going in my "wish list" file too ;) Becky Tellefsen
