A Quick Change for Summer!

Okay, I'll admit it. I've always thought the idea of seasonal change in one's decor was a bit silly...at least for me. Aren't I busy enough already, without the additional pressure of seasonal adjustments?

Then a week ago, while scouring the house for unused items to sell at our neighborhood garage sale, I did a quick switch of the pillows sitting on the settee in the master bedroom. Doing this then gave me the idea to change out the canvas sitting above it. A five minute update that results in a brighter look more appropriate for the summer months!

Summer

Winter

Yep. I think my thinking just changed! As long as it doesn't require a ridiculous amount of time and I have the items on hand, a small switch out with the season is something I'll be embracing a bit more!

  1. Cute...but you're not going to tell us about the art?
    Come on now.

I change out some throw pillows on my couch but that's it. Usually because I found some fun new fabric to make them with.

  7. Love it and your advice is dead on....make the seasonal change if you have everything on hand and it's simple. Doing so keeps a room fresh and interesting and yours looks great! Can't wait to hear about the canvas...!

  8. Perfect! I remember this art! is it the piece at the top of the stairs that hung above the pottery barn settee?! I think it looks great in your room, now have the kids make another one for the hall:)

    And blog about it!

  9. The Canvas! Isabella painted this about 5 years ago...I simply adore it! We went and got the biggest canvas we could and then I set out paints for her, it was such fun to see her work on it!

  12. Absolutely! I think it helps you not to get sick of your accessories if you change them out! That way when fall comes you will want your darker ones again and then come spring its like you have new pillows!

    Fun canvas, love it!

  13. Personally, I love change and get bored too easily to have my house the same year round. I do agree 100% with your thoughts on easy changes with things you already own. I like adding natural elements that I find in my own yard as well.

  14. Janell I have been changing out for the seasons for years now. I am not sure what was the impetus that started me doing it years ago, but probably just wanting change. I change pillows, lampshades and some artwork so it is easy to do, but it makes a huge difference, or at least to me it does. Love your bright touches, I bet you smile everytime you look at it!! 15. I love the scale of Isabella's painting there, and I can't think of anything more encouraging to a child than to see their parent value their creation. I say leave it...summer or winter!

  17. I love that Isabella did that. I might have to let Riley loose on a canvas or two. I am completely down with any season change that only takes five minutes!!

  19. LOVE the "summer " artwork!

I grew up in a home where when it was summer, you rolled up the heavy rugs from the wood floors, you took down the heavy curtains, and you switched out the throw pillows, and you added cut flowers to every room from the garden...Thanks Ma! I do the same things-those apples don't fall far from the tree, eh? ♥ switching it all up-keeps the brain engaged.

  21. I love the two looks. I've been moving things around for years. I use the same pillow inserts and different covers. With 3M removable hooks, its easy to move art around, too. Love your blog. I get so much inspiration.

  31. I love Isabella's masterpiece! She's quite talented! The scale and colors in her painting really suits your space. I don't do a whole lot of seasonal decor changes. I do like to change out the decorative pillows.

  32. I just went through this exact same process!!! I'm a recent convert to seasonal decorating. (It also justifies all the extra accessories!) :)
