This was certainly a quick little update. And unfortunately I dove into it before stopping to snap a few before photos! What? Did I momentarily forget I write a blog and must photograph every step of EVERYTHING?
But I did get photos of the first color I painted the room, Charisma. Then came the bathroom boycott, which resulted in my pulling out a leftover can of Quietude from the garage for a quick redo. Fortunately calm returned to the household immediately afterwards.
The Details: Max still has a hard time reaching smaller towels hung from the bar. I often step into the room only to find the hand towels on the floor or soaking wet in the sink. Hopefully the longer bath towel will prevent this from happening for now...or perhaps I'll simply find this bigger towel sopping wet in the sink? (He loves to fill the sink with water and play with his Lego's here, if you're wondering why there is such an issue with wet towels!) We'll see if this tactic works.
Also, I would LOVE to bring in this Eric Cohler fixture. The redo has totaled under $70 to date, so perhaps I'll decide to splurge. The space above the mirror could certainly handle this larger (and fabulous) fixture.
And what's this?
If your house is anything like mine, you probably hear this a lot as well:
"Mom, there's NO TOILET PAPER!"
The expectation is I'm supposed to drop anything and everything to come running with another roll.
No more.
This little beauty was found at Crate & Barrel, on sale for $14.99.
A new soap dispenser...
...and waste basket, from HomeGoods. What a great resource for accessories!
Finally, the wash treatment was just a little messy; I did say it left a few splatters of paint on the ceiling.
Here's the evidence. I've decided not to touch up the paint on the ceiling, or even run the new paint color up to the ceiling in all the spots, because I want motivation to add cove crown molding! This is my favorite style of molding, simple and classic.
I did a little google search and according to ask.com:
"Installing cove molding is not hard at all. Starting at a corner of the room, measure to the next corner and cut the molding to that length. Using a caulk gun and molding adhesive, place two strips of adhesive on the back of the molding. Gently lift the molding into place and press hard. Continue on around the room."
This encourages me I may be able to handle such a project. At some point during the summer I'll be testing this claim!

i know it wasn't your first choice, but i love it! i think it looks beautiful, and flows perfectly with the pieces on your shelving, as well as the chairs... it all just works nicely! and your family is happier, which is always a plus! :)
Molding adhesive? Never heard of it. What happened to using a nail gun, filling the nail holes with wood putty, sanding wood putty, & touching up the paint?
And don't you have to cut the molding at a 45 degree angle?
Upside down?
I don't know but ask.com seems to have simplified things.
Mary, you could be right, but I'm willing to give it a go! This approach (no nails) worked with my bathroom mirror frame, so you never know! Janell
I love your powder room accessories. The soap dispenser and waste basket all have the same bronze finish detail as the faucet.
I can't wait to see the new addition of cove crown molding in this room.

I am new to your blog. Lovely. Can you give me information about the light fixture in your hallway? I have never seen anything like it.
It turned out beautifully, Janell. You know that I think you should splurge on the fixture...afterall, you had to compromise on the paint color! What's a girl supposed to do! Perhaps you'll find a place to put some touches of that beautiful coral!
Really great job!! I really do love the color. The gold framed botanical prints are fabulous (were those in the room before?).
No, the prints were my grandmothers. I recently got them when my brother cleaned out his attic and we rediscovered many of her treasures that had been packed away for years. The prints started the whole really update. I love having them here, reminds me of being at her house, which I loved!

love the fixtures Janell...
the bronze is the perfect accent for this powder room lending a little organic feel..
I also love that you added a little more depth to the walls by adding a layer of wash over the first coat of paint...very pretty room...

Janell, I think it turned out just lovely! I guess the boycott had a silver lining after all. ;-)
Looks great! I love the light fixture you have picked out - and we have that same sink in the kids' bathroom! We used a stepstool for years in there.

I really love that color, especially looking down the hallway. I like that the artwork holds special meaning.

Lovely redo!
I know it's not exactly the same, but I just saw a light on onekingslane that's similar - and about half the price - worth a look, right?

Enjoy!
I say go for the splurge. That light fixture is to die for!
It's just lovely, Janell. It's so great tracking how all these little details add up to one beautiful room.
It's beautiful, like everything else you do. You are so talented and your blog is an amazing source of insipration.
Your powder room is looking so pretty! I love your accessories and agree with the t.p. basket - I have one too!
And I'm loving your sightline through your home too. Isn't it funny how the smallest thing can really bring such joy? :)
Very nice. I am wondering the same as one of the other commentors...where can I find the light fixture in your hallway? I LOVE it!
i hear you on the TP thing. i swear we go through a roll a day! and SO good to see that you get a few splatters on the ceiling here and there while painting...so, you're NOT perfect afterall!
:)
My entryway is painted in Quietude, and I LOVE it! Your powder room looks great!

It looks great. Timeless and classy. The floors are my favorite part and I think it's a must to have a supply of toilet paper available at arms length.
I'm not even kidding right now when I tell you my little girl JUST hollered out 'MOMMY THERE'S NO MORE TOILET PAPER!"
and i did, drop everything (or reading your post) to go take her some. I think I need a few of those CB baskets!
Cassie, that is hilarious! I KNEW I wasn't the only one to hear this refrain! Janell
Looks amazing! Cove crown is my favorite also!! And splurge on the light fixture... $70 is an amazing budget!!

Look beautiful! I have a square sink also in our half bath and I love it. The prints are so pretty. Lucky you got to get some things from your grandmother. It all came together nicely.
I have very similar prints at my house in the mudroom. They were my husband's grandmothers that I found in a closet at my mother in laws house...she was happy to give them to me and I have enjoyed them for many years now. So pretty! Your decor always "speaks" to me.
I love your designs. Absolutely beautiful. What color do you have on the walls in the hallway leading to your powder room?
