There Were Mother's Days When I Wished For Jewelry...Not This Year!

This Mother's Day I hoped for a mop. Yes, that's right. No jewelry please, what would make this mom extremely happy would be a cleaning device, thank you very much.

And I got it. Early Mother's Day I was awaken to see a box containing Shark's Steam Pocket Mop sitting on the kitchen nook table. And what did I do, as I sipped on a cup of hot coffee? Unwrap that baby, quickly scan the directions and begin mopping.

Exhibit A: Dirty Floor

I couldn't wait to see if it worked on my floors. I'd read several very mix reviews, ranging from love to it's being taken back to the store, but I was hoping to see for myself. (Plus I'd heard rave reviews from a neighbor and saw how great her floors looked at a recent party!)

Exhibit B: Clean Floors!

Twenty minutes later all the hardwood flooring in my house was clean. And that is a lot of hardwood. Previously the only way I had found to get the flooring this clean was to wipe them down while on my hands and knees, taking many times longer and sore knees being part of the result. (I would put off this task until I couldn't stand it another second!)

Even Isabella was excited to give it a try.

LOVE

And my review? While the result does fall slightly short of the old method requiring hours I simply don't have, it does a job I'm thrilled with. The floors look and feel so clean! And despite many complaints that the device leaves streaks behind, perhaps because my floors are hand-scraped distressed floors, I didn't find this to be a problem at all.

Next on the Mother's Day agenda, now that my floors were clean? Breakfast in bed!

The menu selections...yum!

What more could a mom ask for?

What a cute post that has me smiling. Isn't it truly the little things in life that make us happy?

I am having hickory hardwood floors installed this week too. I love your floors, but wanted to tell you the salesman told me NOt to use a steam mop on them as that might separate the layers of the wood. Just FYI. Any suggestions for me?

What a wonderful way to celebrate. It's nice to see you got something you wanted. I really liked the Menu for your breakfast in bed, especially the Sides: Coconut Flakes and Carrot Sticks. You don't see that at your typical restaurant ;-)

Happy Mothers Day!

Will your floors have a finish? In my research I found that the floors need to have a finish to be able to use this type of mop. It's also important not to use too much steam or have water pool on the floors, so I went lighter rather than heavy with the steam and there was no excess water to wipe up, and still did the job. I'd love to talk to your hardware guy! Janell

This is funny last Saturday I was at Walmart and looking at the shelves of this mop thinking how about this for Mom's Day present. My friend got one for X-mas and been telling me to get one I still waiting for a real good review. :>
Guess what? I got my first sewing Machine and the saleslady talked my husband on getting the good one not the beginners. so now I'm really intimidated with this ( Brother Project Runaway Limited Edition.;(
A white gold earrings, and ring w/ diamond. a purse and wallet.Yup, I had a great Mom's Day not what I expected I guess, the reason is that my hubby's overseas mostly during Mom's Day. All I want is the MOP! :>

We are also having hickory floors installed soon & I better find out if I can steam clean them. The thought of cleaning them on my knees makes me ill.
My mother told me once never to accept a gift that comes with a cord. But if it makes my life easier...why not?

Great gift! Now, that breakfast in bed sound deelish! I had a bowl of cheerios!

For mothers day, I finally got my purple orchid! For a minute I thought I would have to purchase it myself;) Oh and my oldest bought me a pack of chewing gum!

I love that you wanted a mop, indeed our priorities shift don't they? The menu was precious! You have sweet, thoughtful kids who know just what makes a Mom happy!

Your floors are beautiful. I have always wanted hardwood floors like yours, hand scraped and distressed but what I inherited from the previous owners when we bought our house are oak floors.

Such thoughtful gift and breakfast in bed sounds wonderful. Lucky mommy!

P/S: I spend my day yesterday (Mother's Day) painting and touching up the walls in my master bedroom. No presents and no fancy meals. :( But it's okay, I am glad the room is painted now.

I used to dread mopping as well until I got my Shark for Christmas. For as long as floors stay clean this thing does the trick!

Sounds like you had a fantastic Mother's Day--what sweet children you have!

Sounds like perfection on a platter between cleaning and eating. They are two of my favorite activites, especially when other people are doing the cleaning and cooking :)

Janell I was wondering about steam cleaning on wood floors. I have read a lot about it also. So glad to hear it from you. Loved all the choices on your menu, how sweet. Sounds like a wonderful day with your sweet family, xo Kathysue

My sister bought me the steam mop and I LOVE it. I don't know where I'd be without it. We joke about how wierd I am that I find that much joy out of a mop.

Isn't it funny how our priorities have changed? If you had received a mop 10 years ago you probably would have beaten your husband with it. Love the menu.

How fun! I love cleaning supplies too, which reminds me I need more swiffer pads to clean our kitchen floors! Your hardwood looks awesome. Hope you enjoyed your breakfast in bed (:

Happy belated Mother's Day Janell. It looks like a fabulous one. What more could you ask for?! I have been dying for this steam mop. All of our floors are hardwood and they are time so consuming to clean. I'm glad you love it, I might have to bite the bullet and buy one.

ah, so true about wanting house things for gifts. my husband still doesn't believe me when i tell him that i want things like a knife set or a new vacuum or a wheat grinder for christmas.
i have always wondered about those Shark deal-ios...wasn't sure if they worked or not. it's good to get some feedback straight from a reputable source!!

My wife, aka Little Blue Deer, was thrilled with the wet/dry vac I got her last year... jewelery is nice, but cleaning devices bring joy over & over!

Wow, those are some clean floors! And I love that your daughter wanted to get in on the act. Hopefully you put your feet up for while and watched her. :)

Never let it be said that you don't sweat the small stuff too, Janell!! It's true, your floors do look particularly lovely in the after photos.

I'm seriously tempted. I wonder if there are UK stockists?

Way too funny that I just saw the infomercial for this mop this morning, and thought... "I need to get one of those!" Now with your review, and those of your commenters, I'm convinced. My floors are never clean enough, and with a little one crawling around -- I hate to use harsh chemicals. Thanks!

Love the breakfast in bed, and the MENU! Too cute.

I think that sounds like a delightful Mother's Day, Janell! That menu is precious! Your floors look sparkly clean! I'm going to have to look into that Shark's Steam Pocket Mop. We just put in bamboo floors. Maybe this would be the ticket for us to keep them clean.

I need one of those too!!! Our neighbor had us over for brunch. His daughter was serving her Grandma and I. It was so sweet of them!

Then we all went to see "Water for Elephants". I read the book and loved the movie.
