Bold Pattern, It Needn't Be Controversial

The topic of this week's Ideabook written for Houzz is 10 Places To Go Bold With Pattern, from surfaces requiring a serious commitment to small accessories if you are feeling a bit shy. To read, click here.
Writing this Ideabook reminded me of another, 10 Ways to Make a Room Bloom, in which I suggested that introducing floral prints into a design could add a touch of Spring all year long. The below living room, by Lisa of A Bloomsbury Life, was included among several other examples. What followed took me by surprise. Sure the look is not everyone's cup of tea, but people were actually getting upset over her choices!

The comments got me to thinking about how fast disagreements, even over our interiors, can escalate. My husband and I talked at length on this subject, which lead me to contact Lisa about including her home in a story I was feeling inspired to write for House of Fifty, 'Can't We All Just Get Along?' Being a person who doesn't care much if others don't love her choices, she quickly agreed. Bravo, that is the spirit! After the magazine went live I particularly enjoyed reading Lisa's post on the article and how it came about...I'm convinced she would be a fun person to meet.

I'm thinking this week's Ideabook will not elicit such strong responses...but then again, I certainly didn't think a sweet little Ideabook on including floral prints in our homes would either!

I think overall, Lisa's living space is quite gorgeous and chic. If her design choices make her happy, that is what really matters.

Happy Mother's Day, Janell.

First of all, my congratulations for the stunning e-zine! It's truly inspirational & overall gorgeous! As one of my new favorite e-zines I couldn't resist to blog about it. Ofc, you are invited to read the post on Live.Create.Inspire :)

About the post:
We all have our own, personal style when it comes to decorating or fashion and thats super good :) Otherwise what of a boring world it would be? Anyway, I like Lisa's mixed-up style. I think it's charming! Have a nice, peaceful weekend! Xoxo

design choices are personal. if we all liked the same things, how BORING this world would be. but I must throw in that I LOVE the curtains in that home... that fabric is one of my faves.
Love me some BOLD patterns, mixed with neutrals too.
great post,

Loved your new ezine and this article. I guess a little controversy and debate is good for the soul. I do believe ugly comments are best left unsaid.

I love A Bloomsbury Life, Lisa has great style. That being said, it is not all my style, but I do not get "bent out of shape" about it. Why does my place have to look like hers? Or why would hers have to look like mine? WE all have our styles and choices and that is what makes us unique! Great ezine!

Fun to mix it up a bit! Like Lisa's choices...in the end, it's all how it works for those who live in it!

Kudos again to the mag...of to read it some more!
