A Bit Of Fabulous via Gorgeous Shiny Things

Danika Herrick, of Gorgeous Shiny Things, is working on a remarkable project for a client that has me wondering where on earth I can attempt something similar!

"My client Shauna (who is off the wall awesome to work with, and hits the thrift shops harder than anyone I know) wanted to do something on the wall behind her banquette in her dining area. We had talked wallpaper or stencils but we need lots of color to pull it all together. She loved her dragon and we decided to feed it massively illegal doses of steroids."

Schumacher's Chiang Mai Dragon in Aquamarine

"So here is how we super-sized. Shauna drew a 1 x 1 foot grid lightly on the wall. I took a picture of the segment of the Schumacher Chiang Mai Dragon we wanted to used and drew a grid over it to match the one on the wall. We then drew it in block by block. Another option would be to use an enlarging projector, but we were working in daylight so that was out."

"Then we painted and painted for four days. It's not a quick project by any means. This one also used 16 different colors, many that require two coats. If I were smarter I would have painted this on canvas and had it installed like wallpaper. I could have painted at my leisure and wouldn't have had to work around sitters. But Shauna was great to work with, and it's rare to have a hands on client like her. It helped a ton, because I'd come back the next day and she would have sketched more in or second coated areas."

This is a "mock up" of the soon to be finished room. The bench is out to be reupholstered, the mirror resting on it's back will be hung and a rustic farm table will be added to the mix. Simply fabulous...I'll be watching for the reveal! Will you?!

GORGEOUS!! I'm obsessed with that dragon pattern. I also really love her chandelier. Do you have the details on that?

Off the charts! Amazing! Love, love, love this. It has lots of color and is really infused with personality, but the chicness of the other elements keep this space looking super fab! Can't wait to see the final outcome!

That is just amazing work! I tried copying someone's art grid by grid and it has taken me 1 month and it's only a 40" by 40"! Fantastic effort!

Do you think me saying that over and over while clicking my heels together will make it appear in my house? Gosh, I love it!

Janell...you're amazing at what you do....
but this is wild b/c i just opened a new Schumacher acct and noticed just yesterday the MAI Dragon came in wallpaper too....I was actually thinking about it for a niche behind our piano in our new house, but had reservations...well, after seeing it on the wall on your blog, i LOVE it on the wall!....I just ordered a pillow in the aqua dragon for the sofa in the same room & was thinking the extra punch of the wall would be fun....so, now i'm inspired......
now, blowing it up on steroids is SOOOO much work. I LOVE the look and would love to amplify it too..but I may have to go the ez route and have my wallpaper guru hang the dragon!
xoxo
p.s. thx always for great inspiration.
