Two Inspiring Furniture Makeovers

In the world of decorating, is there anything better than seeing how creativity can transform the ordinary into the extraordinary?

Nancy from the blog Marcus Design was inspired by the below image, and particularly the Dorothy Draper Chest of Drawers.

Taking the most basic of dressers found at Ikea, Nancy transformed a pair to become nightstands in her master bedroom.
Pretty fabulous I'd say! Nancy shares the steps taken to create this look here.

Then have you missed the sweet bedframe makeover by Cassie at Hi Sugarplum?

Using Sherwin Williams Radish paint...wow, what a great color...this bedframe received quite the makeover!

The lines are just wonderful and the color is simply beautiful against the walls.

To learn the details on how the bedframe was successfully painted, read Cassie's post here.

I especially love the Draper chest! Gorgeous! My favorite makeover lately that I've done was turning an old headboard, that I picked up from Craigslist for FREE, into a gorgeous bench for my foyer! Was so fun and turned out even better than I'd hoped even! http://lifefordessert.blogspot.com/2011/02/trash-to-treasureantique-headboard.html

Fabulous job on both of those! Have you used glazing on furniture that you have painted before? I'm considering glazing a china cabinet and was wondering if you have any tips.

I love that bed, I don't think I have ever seen anything with such a cute little detail instead of a footboard.

Both are such amazing furniture makeovers!! Can't get over the Dorthy Draper side tables - they are a perfect match to the ones she was inspired by!

That bed is intense! I really like it. I'm kind of in love with this faux fireplace in coral (?) at Fern and Feather, I think I may need to attempt something like that.

I had seen the Draper chest and was amazed. I love that she says she isn't even a major DIYer but this project has everyone coming to her for advice on all things DIY. She sure could have fooled me with this project. The bed is fun too....like the linens also!

Great transformation! I so need a road trip to Ikea. The closest is Chicago to me. I have an idea saved for a small dresser using grass cloth on the drawers and art deco knobs for a high end look on the cheap! Enjoy your day!
