This table is going to require a lot of chairs, so I thought I'd start with what I already have on hand and make them work. Nothing is wrong with these two chairs except the legs just look wrong against the lovely legs of the table.
Slipcovers made from drop cloths were the inexpensive solution I decided upon. First the chair backs and seat cushions were covered, see here, and next came the skirts. Long lengths were cut from the drop cloth to wrap around the chairs to become the skirts. (I ended up using a 4' x 24' drop cloth for this project, which allowed me to cut these long pieces.)
One edge of each length was hemmed and next their ends were sewn together to create two continuous bands of fabric, one for each chair.
With right sides out, the skirt was draped around the chair with deep pleats pinned at each of the four corners, making sure the hemmed edge just reached the floor.
Once the skirt was pinned in place, a line of pins was run along the line where the skirt would be sewn to the top portion of the slipcover. Next the skirt was removed from the chair, keeping the pins in place...
...and a stitch was sewn along the pin line while also stitching the corner tucks in place.
Next the top edge of the skirt and the bottom edge of the slipcover were pinned together along the stitch line, rights side facing one another, and sewn together.
Afterwards the covers were turned right side out and slipped over the chairs. The hardest part of this project was being okay with the rumpled quality of the slipcovers. I had begun to press them during the first steps and it didn't look great...I quickly realized a little lived in rumbled worn look actually makes these covers look better and to be okay with that!
I like the look of the the natural fabric next to the table...
...and the conflicting leg style issue has been resolved.
Hum...now what to do for the rest of the seating?

They look amazing! So natural and simple. Love the way the table turned out also. You are very inspiring.
I absolutely love these ... they look fabulous with your table, too! Your creativity makes me wish I knew how to sew!! *Becca*
Wow! They look fabulous! I'm not much of a seamstress so I find projets like this intimidating. Awesome job! Can't wait to see what other chairs you use.
wow! I have to say I am in love with the transformation. You've made that process look so doable!
They are beautiful! I love the style in which you sewed them. They look great with your table too:)

I need a skirt to hide my pasty white legs from being covered in winter ski pants.
Your chairs look as though they are ready to go out and party with Mr. Table.
Hope you are well.

Your new slipcovers look great - a perfect choice to go with your table. It sounds like working with drop cloths is a good alternative to other more expensive fabrics.
Janell, you did a fantastic job. I found that after I washed my drop cloth slipcovers , I would shake them out and put back on chairs slightly damp. It really helped smooth the rumpled look. You could also use your scraps for a runner or place mats, maybe stenciled?
Wow Janell. You hit another one out of the ball park! I agree, this is the perfect solution to conflicting legs and the fabric looks nice against the wood tone.
You know, those look amazing..so professional..and you do a great job with walking us through the project. I know I would still completely botch a project like that, I admire your talent!
Gorgeous slipcovers. They look great!
I love the texture of the slipcovers with the table. You are just so talented!
Great job Jannel, as always! What about a bench for one of the sides of your table? Have you consider that option?
XOXO
I like the natural aspect of them. The trim you added is my favorite part. You could pop any one of your easy-sew-pillows on your chairs and they would really sing.
You're GOOD! I cannot believe how comfortable yet tailored these slipcovers are... Thanks for sharing, these chairs really MAKE your dining room!

They turned out great, Janell! I love the way you did the skirt and it definitely accomplished what you set out to do.
WOW! You're so creative!!!
I had a similar project in mind but wasn't sure of the end result but you made it possible.
The details on the table legs seems to put the entire design together.
Love it! :)
Loverly...I love drop cloths as a fabric!
They look stunning with your table!
what a beautiful match...i love the rumpled look...it goes perfectly with the natural looking table!
Beautiful solution!! And you make it look so easy!
Loving the transformation of this room! The table is stunning and the dropcloth slipcovers ingenious. You make it all look so simple!

Beautiful Job Janell! The slipcovers look great next to your table!
that is amazing! you did such a good job and now i want to go slipcover something, but i know you make it look so much easier than it is :)

Once again, you make it look so easy! Love the way they turned out, and you're right about how great the rumpled, natural fabric looks against the greyed wood of the table. So perfect!
I wouldn't say they were easy to do, it definitely required a bit of methodical work and focus. I was tired after working on them, that is for sure! But worth it, the total cost was $17.00, getting the drop cloth on sale! That makes me forget the work pretty fast. :)
Janell
Janell , Those came out great !!
You make everything look so easy. :)

Wow I am so impressed! Looks absolutely stunning
They look fab! I'm going to be attempting my first slipcovers soon . .. thanks for the inspiration!!
I'm so impressed! The style of the chair now goes perfectly with the table.. many more chairs to go to fill that table!
i LOVE them! They look amazing with the table!
You are sooo talented! Amazing what you can whip up! They look beautiful. And perfect for that table!
You make it look so simple! These look AMAZING! Slip covers are pretty expensive so nice work here. I need to try to make these one day.
Gorgeous looking chairs. They really work with the table.
The table is so beautiful and the slipcovers are gorgeous, they complement the table really well.
Oh my gosh they look fantastic and as always you made it look so easy peasy! It's hard to believe you were looking up hints and these turned out so pro! :)
Your DIY really make me wish I took sewing more seriously in high school. Looks wonderful.
Beautiful. I love this look against your table. I am in awe of people like you who can tackle this kind of project. I'm totally intimidated by sewing projects!
Gorgeous! Love the contrast of the fabric with the table!
You are so right about not pressing the fabric -- I think they look beautiful with the soft wrinkles. As usual, your craft(wo)manship rocks!
I'm thinking that your fashion background made this look easy! At least you know how to drape and pleat! My last experience with slipcovering a huge sofa was so distasteful,(over 10 years ago!)that I haven't broached it again, but you've made this look so easy that I might get my nerve up once more. These look really lovely! What are you going to do about the other chairs? Vintage, maybe?
Your chairs turned out great! Love the drop cloth texture and color! They look wonderful with your table.
Oh yes, this was just like being back in draping class! As for the other chairs...I have no idea! I need to spend a day out looking for bargains at thrift stores and the likes.
Janell
Love these Janell, you make it look so easy!!

Oh wow I LOVE those slipcovers, you are such an amazing sewer, drooooool! That fabric next to those rustic but curvy table legs makes my heart go pitter patter!
Have you thought of a bench under the table? Too much wood? Your kids would love it! Can't wait to see what you come up with! Fantastic as always!
xo
Kate
They look amazingly professional! Of course, you did them, so I'm not surprised. They're beautiful with the new table!
Great job! They look awesome.
Now for my silly question.... what is a drop cloth exactly and where do you buy them? I keep reading blogs where people use them to slipcover and all sorts of things and I am getting curious. I should probably google it but instead I figured I'd embarrass myself and ask the whole blog world :)
TIA! ;)
Wow! You are amazingly talented! I love these! I would love to do something like this to my dining room chairs...mine are very nice, and they have a thick cushion, but they don't have a cushion back like yours...it is just wood...but I love these. Very beautiful! :)
Fabulous. Very well done. I just love that table every time I see it too!
Hi Janell,
These are amazing, they look great. I've been wanting to make a cover for the table and might use this same technique. {Always wondered about that folded corner part.}
How about a bench or two for other seating? Then you can always match the fabric if you cover that.
Excellent project, as always :-)
Love them!
Fabulous! I think they look perfect with the table, and if your house is anything like mine, a crisp pressed look wouldn't last anyway. :)
Beautiful! You are so talented, Janell!
So amazing Janell! You make it look so easy. You are so inspiring. I made some spring wreaths today, and I kept thinking, "What would Janell do?"
Thanks for the inspiration!
They are gorgeous! I'd pair them with leather-tufted benches on each side... :)

Beautifully done! I love the extra line of stitching at the join between the seat and skirt. French seams are so pretty! And your stitching is so perfectly straight! Very impressive. Thanks for sharing.
Love the slipcovers, especially the little band around the separates top from bottom.
These are beautiful!
A few questions:
Do you use upholstery thread or ordinary thread?
What weight drop cloths do you use?
I was wanting to slipcover my couches and got hung up on these questions. Thanks.
you, my dear, are amazing...
OMG, these look great Janell! You are seriously the bomb! Nobody tops you!
amazing!!!! great job, Janell!

Wow...they turned out so great. I wish I could sew! Seems you can do just about anything! Impressed!
Hi Amy,
I used 12 oz. drop cloths I found at Sherwin Williams. Originally I was going to use the extra 8 oz drop cloth material left over from making the shade in the WC, but then decided the color was too cool and I wanted a heavier weight. The 4' x 24' drop cloth used was around $17.00 on sale.
Thread, I used regular weight Gutermann thread, which can be found at Joann Fabrics. You could certainly opt to use a heavy weight thread, just to make sure the seams are durable...or just double stitch any seams that may need extra strength.
Hope that answers your questions! Janell
Those are absolutely incredible. Your talent knows no ends!!!
You are quite the seamstress ... nicely done. Love that table with the canvas dropcloth.
You are a talented seamstress and/or very patient. They look great with the table. It seems like the chairs might benefit from a higher back? I am imagining some metal in the mix, maybe some cafe chairs? I liked the suggestion of a bench, but you wouldn't want more wood. Love the legs on that table btw, great find!
Wow, you did a fabulous job and love the tutorial!
Those slipcovers are fantastic. Great job as always!
You are a rock star!
Unbelievable! Those look amazing...
so I was over on Alice Lane's blog the other day and saw this photo and thought of your dining table situation. You probably have enough inspiration ideas already, but thought I'd share. An upholstered bench would look amazing, maybe in a pop of color or pattern? Here's the link: http://blog.alicelanehome.com/show-n-tell/private-residence-afters/ Its mid-way through the post!
Beck...Okay, That image is amazing! You've convinced me. I've been thinking about the idea, but seeing it all laid out here with a similar table and slipcovered chairs...what is there left to consider but to find a bench!!
Thanks, Janell
absolutely perfect! I adore how these turned out!! your new table looks fabulous too. so, so pretty!!

Wow! I lift my hat and say CONGRATULATIONS! You did a great job and the chairs suit the table!

Love them! You know how to take everything to the next level!
Janell, you just taught me something, thank you! I'm not slip-covering chairs, but am wanting to create a tailored skirt (with grosgrain ribbon trim) for a console table and I couldn't figure out how to make that pleat-thingie like you've done on the corners...now I think I can do it! Thanks so much!
They really look amazing!
Outstanding! Looks FANTASTIC!
Brilliant idea - LOVE it!
:D Lynda
Any chance you would make these and sell them? I need 4.
