I admit it, I do attempt to hang pendants and other fixtures in places where perhaps a flush mount fixture would do just as well or better. It comes down to my personal fascination with pendants and chandeliers of all types; in my opinion they are the jewelry of a room!
To enable this preference, there are strategies for installing a hanging fixture in a room with lower ceilings, and guidelines to keep in mind when selecting a fixture for a specific space and how low it should be hung.
One trick to successfully installing a hanging fixture in a room with eight foot ceilings is to place the fixture above a piece of furniture...ensuring no one gets their head bumped.
Another approach is to hang a fixture above the foot of a bed...
...and above a table, anchoring the furniture arrangement.

I also love chandeliers.
Especially the one over our bed from a local antique shop. Over the dining room table we have had 5 different ones. If I change it again I may end up in Divorce Court. My husband Hates IT when I'm changing/replacing things.
Have you finally finished reading all the comments left from yesterday's post? WOW!
Have a great weekend.
I to am partial to hanging light fixtures, however I only dream of hanging them in every room. ;-) They are beautiful!
I have hanging light fixtures in all our rooms except my daughter's room...where we forgot to leave a provision...I am partial towards chandeliers and have 3 in my house..foyer, living room and bedroom....and I agree with you ...they are indeed jewels for the room!!
I love chandeliers. I have them all over my home. I do have low ceilings living in an English Tudor and I've done just what you said. I agree....they are the jewelry of a room. The Bling!

I'm going to be like you when I grow up! I want pretty lights in every room of my house too!
Good Morning!
Never met a pendant light I didn't like, would take it any day over recessed or flush mounted lighting. It just adds so much to a room....there can never be too many and I love them in unexpected places, tiny vestibules, powder rooms, bedrooms and even big enough closets!
i couldn't agree more. we just added two chandi's to our house last week and they make me so happy! best thing, they are both thrift store finds for $6 and $7 each. a little spray paint and they look like a million bucks!
Hi Janell-
I just opened my Calico Corners newsletter that arrived in my inbox. I smiled when I saw your pillow post featured. A wonderful tute. I get all excited when I see a fellow blogger's work get nationally featured or recognized. Very exciting. Congrats!
My best- Diane
If I could take every light and hang a fixture I would be a really happy girl. Well, just in a few more areas :)
Hope you enjoy your weekend, lots and lots of rain here.

Its my goal to have a hanging fixture in every room! cant get enough of them.
I get this question all the time... great post!
xo,
cristin
I completely agree - you can never have too many lovely pendants and chandeliers! I'm slowly working towards replacing every fixture in our home, starting with all the ceiling fans! :) have a great weekend!
I LOVE pendants of all shapes and sizes, My life motto should be: why have a flush mount when you could have a pendant?
My Husband jokes that I would put a different chandelier in each one of our pot lights.
Love all your lights! Especially the one you just hung in your hallway :)
I agree that chandeliers are the jewelry of a room! Very well put! They are so fun and eye catching. Thanks for the great tips on how to best hang them.
I love the way these beautiful lighting fixtures look- I just don't see how people live w/o a ceiling fan in their bedroom though! IN the summer that is my MOST favorite/ relaxing thing- laying in bed at dusk with the ceiling fan on, or in the morning while listening to the birds chirp outside...
Janell these are all great pointers. I am with you on a hanging fixture is like jewelry and it can look more like the unexpected than the ordinary. Yours are all great examples of that. I bought a cute lantern to hang in the playroom from crate and barrel. Can't wait until it is up and the room is done. We are making progress, slow and steady!! KS
WOW...great post! I'm going to use your advice about the low ceilings and use of chandeliers-thanks!

Candace
Hi Janell!
Came over from
Kathysue's to read
Is Blogging

it's way and I'm

I liked this post very much..I m interior and ur site really helped me. A+ for this nice post. At college bedding we know collegiate bedding best! Whether its sheets, pillows, comforters, duvets, sports bedding, crib bedding sets, mattresses pads, down, or anything for a college bed.
Is that your dining nook in the photo with the round table and chairs? If so, can you please tell me where you got both? I am desperately seeking a nice round kitchen table and coordinating (but not the same) chairs and these would be perfect! Thanks so much! And BTW, I love your blog - you are a fantastic decorator!!
Yes, it is. The table was found at ZGallerie, I recently looked and it was no longer available, and the chairs were purchased at Dania Furniture, again several years ago, no longer available. But...Target has similar ones.
Good luck with your search! Janell
