The Updated Look Of Stencils: All Grown Up & Sophisticated

Oh, you know how much I love a great stencil design! Recently stencils have gotten quite the sophisticated update, and my personal favorites are geometric designs.

The above stencil design from Cutting Edge Stencils beautifully demonstrates how fabulous a stenciled wall can look in a bedroom, replicating the look of an expensive wallpaper at a fraction of the cost. (Labor not included!)

If you are ready to give stenciling a try but don't know where to start, read a great round up of tips on Kate's blog here and see my tutorial written for HGTV.com here.

To see more stencil patterns and rooms showcasing them, visit Houzz to read this week's Ideabook.

Have a great weekend! Janell

  1. Janell do you remember the gorgeous stencils that Ralph Lauren came out with years ago when he introduced his paint and faux finishing products? They were very short lived and I never understood why, they were gorgeous. Maybe he should try them again, since stenciling is taking on a whole new look now. Have a great weekend, KS

  4. Isn't it fun to see and old world craft finding a new application. These aren't your mama's stencils! I see a whole new decorative painting niche coming about!

  5. I love that design! I have a giant canvas for my office that I want to paint. Since I don't have much "artistic ability", I was thinking of purchasing a stencil to make a piece of art. Have you done this before?

    Have a great weekend!

  7. Wallpaper still freaks potential home buyers out. If you know where you're living isn't your home for a long time, stencils are the way to go over wallpaper hands down. I love you get a huge impact and although takes a huge time commitment, saves money.

Can't wait to see more Janell, many thanks.

Great weekend to you; it looks as though you may have some sunshine and no snow! : )

Not that we don't love bunnies and chickens.

Just not all over our walls.

  12. Hi Janell. First time commenter here, but I LOVE this stencil and all the stencils you have shown on your blog. I have textured walls, how do stencils work on that type of surface? Thanks for answering my question.

  14. I love your Houzz images. You're so right. Stencils *have* come on a loooong way. I've still not used them but I feel closer and closer to not sitting on the fence any longer!
