When Shari, of little blue deer, suggested the pattern for my new blog header, I was inspired to find more examples of Chinese Fretwork in design. So off to Houzz I went.
Philpotts Interiors
Fretwork is usually made up of a complicated, repeating, geometric pattern, and can be seen in the lines of furniture, screens, fabrics and wallpaper. This was a favored technique of Chippendale in his Chinese period.
Below fretwork was the inspiration for the striking fabric and wallpaper used in dynamic combination.
Tell me, if you look around your house I bet you'll find at least one example of fretwork! To read more about Chinese Fretwork in design read this week's Ideabook written for Houzz.

How cool is that wallpaper? I love this look and I love your new blog design.
Your new blog design is lovely. Love the wallpaper and the bed. So pretty. Hugs, Marty
These are beautiful. As a matter of fact, I just purchased new chairs upholstered in a black and white version of the wallpaper. I specifically chose the fabric because I could see myself still loving it for years to come-I'm all about longevity.
OMGosh Janell, Yesterday I was looking for wallpaper for my entry and guess what I found that I love, You guessed it!! A fretwork, can't wait for you to see it on an upcoming post!!! I love fretwork, always have always will, it is a classic in my book!! Happy weekend , now I am off to Houzz to see the rest,Kathysue
I looked around my house and it's too traditional for fretwork. I think I need to remedy that. Love that chair!!
I love fretwork- I have a chinoise armoire in my kitchen and we're thinking of replicating the fretwork pattern as a freeze under the crown moulding. It's so intricate and delicately pretty.
Your blog design looks for fresh...and that chair...love it!!!
Ashlyn
I love that chair. I need to look around our house...It would be fun to add a couple pillows on our couch in a fretwork fabric. Have a great weeekend, Janell.
I want some frerwork patterned fabric! I think my dining room chairs may have fretwork?
Shari did a great job on your blog design. It is smart and sophisticated just like you! It's been fun to see all things Chinese come back into the forefront of design over the last few years, although some will argue that it's never left. Love the blue bed in the first pic.
Again, love your new design. I think Shari is simple remarkable at what she does. Don't you feel that she acurately captures her in her designs client? And, yes to fretwork...fabulous! I think I'm at the point with Shari that whatever she thinks I'm going with it!
Love your new header - Shari is terrific!! And I love fretwork - saw the piece on Houzz and was instantly smitten. We have plans for a porch that would have a Chinese Chippendale railing around the top (for an outdoor space off the master bedroom) and it totally makes the design!
I have adored that JA Chip. chair for some time now.
Your new blog looks amazing!!!
