This Week's Ideabook On Houzz: Start A Bedroom Design With A Great Headboard

What is the easiest way to dream up a great scheme for a bedroom design? Focus on finding (or making, as I did) a fabulous headboard! It is often the centerpiece of a successful bedroom design and can set the stage for the remaining design elements to fall into place.

There are endless possibilities when it comes to the design of a headboard, and even what materials can be used. One of my favorite design firms, Tracery Interiors, created this stunning bedroom with upholstered headboard panels placed into a recessed opening along a wall of millwork.

Hi Janell,
I made an upholstered headboard a few months ago. I got the idea from Design Sponge.

I even learned how to use my husband's reciprocating saw in the process.
I based my paint, bedding & drapes on what worked with the new headboard.
It's now the room I'm most proud of.

Hi Janell,
Thanks for stopping by my blog! I love finding other bloggers in Portland! :)

These headboards are beautiful ... I especially like the padded one. It looks so cozy.

Looks great, Janell! I love how it's so much more than just a headboard - a wall texture, a backdrop for the room...

I also like the pillows you chose for the bed.

I agree! A great headboard can make or break a room.
