A big thanks to our friend Ben, who writes the new blog called An Austin Kitchen. We would have been lost without his guidance, helping us plan a delicious menu of small plates for a gathering of nearly 50 people during an annual Holiday Progressive Dinner!
Lots and lots of preparation. Despite not typically enjoying working in the kitchen, I had fun cooking with my husband! If you'd like to try any of the recipes yourself, see the links below.
{beyond delicious and festive}
{if you like cilantro...}
{goat cheese & fig filling with arugala and a drizzle of lemon zest}
{a hummus like dish with a sweet twist served with pita bread}
Getting photos, let alone good ones, at a party while playing host is a challenge...particularly if your camera doesn't behave well in the evening hour light. Hint, hint. Husband, are you reading?
At one point during the event I noticed the crowd had seemed to thin. When I went looking for the guests I discovered a group had made themselves at home in the newly completed Master Bedroom! And they didn't want to leave...

1/ Those prosciutto rolls sound amazing! -- I'm in. 2/ I love that your guests ended up lounging in your beautiful master bedroom - and that it was clean enough to entertain in! I usually throw everything in our bedroom and shut the door tight before guests arrive!
Seems like you full the party together despite of the hazzle of being a host . If I remember it right you mentioned once that your using a Canon Rebel camera we got the same one for 7 years now and still love it.
Well, it been 2 years now your wishing for Nikon D90. Hope your wish be granted this year. :)
Looks like a good scene - I always enjoy when people get dressed up for an event - Congratulations for pulling it off!

Looks like it was great, and the menu sounded divine. I clicked on the link for the prosciutto rolls, but it took me to the muhammura--are you able to relink? I have a craving for them now!

Great looking party...and now starving! :)
I made the meatballs last week - they were fantastic! I served them as dinner, with jasmine rice made iwth part cocoanut milk. Mmmmm....

Hi Janell, looks like the party was nothing short of fantastic, and I bet you looked just gorgeous in that dress. I checked out Austin Kitchen -- what a great blog. I also want to say that you have such great style in your home. Is it wallpaper or stencil on the cocoa wall by the staircase? It's fantastic.
Just found the wall tutorial! Never mind ! :)
Wow all of those things sound delish and the party looks fun and festive!
Janell - It looks like a great time was had by all. Glad I could help.

It looks like a fun party with great company, delicious food and your beautiful home. I'm eyeing your gorgeous stenciled wall and that yummy soup recipe. That sounds like a good one for our Christmas Eve dinner.
everything sounds so delish :)
Hi Janell-
I have been hint hinting to my husband all year, too. I am hoping he has gotten the message as most of my party pics I took last week didn't come out or not very well. I hope Santa brings you the camera of your dreams.
My best- Diane
Look at all those happy and good looking guest! How come I wasn't invited?! (:
I would have been the first one visiting your fabulous master bedroom! It is magazine worthy! Love everything about it.

What a great holiday party! I wasn't suprised that your guest were in awe of your beautiful home and couldn't help touring room to room.
I also have a 2 year old Canon Rebel. It doesn't have an antishake feature for night portraits and I have no idea how to use a tripod. I can't wait to trade up. I hope Santa hears you :)
Yum! and what fun! You are making a great case too for a new camera.

I'm always up to try new recipes. A progressive dinner would work very well in my neighborhood considering we are always in each other's kitchens anyway! Thanks for sharing!
Looks like a great party and the food looks fabulous! I am off to bookmark these right away!
