Where You Can Find Me Today: Splendid Willow

Today you can find me at Splendid Willow, the stylish blog written by Monika...who I hope to meet soon, seeing how she lives just up the highway from me!

There is nothing quite like the sensibility of someone with Swedish genes, I swear. Look at a view of a bedroom in her home, showcasing a dresser she updated with a surprising approach.

Can you believe the dresser once looked like this?!

I also have a tiny update to share from the Master Bedroom Redesign, one I think Monika will approve of! I love this little paper mache bird by David Stark, just looking at him (the bird, that is) makes me happy...

The room is nearly complete...and I am determined to wrap up this project stat, despite all the distractions of the holiday season! All that remains to bring the room to the finish line is bedding. I just ordered fabric to sew a duvet. After visiting a few websites, in a search for one, I quickly realized finding a duvet in just the right color and fabric was going to be difficult. Making your own duvet isn't a complicated sewing project, as long as the design remains simple. And I'm sure to post a tutorial...just in case you'd like to try a similar project.

Aaah! What a little cutie that bird is. It looks extremely well made too. I've seen some like that that look a bit odd!

I've wondered about making duvet covers before so I'll be a-waiting for your tutorial.

Cute little bird Janell! I was at the dollar store a week ago and spotted a bird (not too cute), I spray painted it antique gold and sat it in my kitchen window like you did. I swear I smile everytime I see it! Oh, and your button looks great on my blog;-)

What is it about birds that people happy? I found an ugly glazed bird at the thrift store and using white spray paint gave it an updated look. It now sits on my daughter's bedside table.

Love the blue but dare I say, loved the "before" more?

Yes, there was quite the debate on her site regarding the painting, but after hearing Monika's points it made sense to me. Yet...design is very subjective and I love that everyone has their own opinion and preferences!

The bird is a treat!! That dresser is incredible -- it was a beautiful piece before, so much so that I'm not sure I could have taken a brush to it, but I'm glad her will prevailed -- so unexpected, bold and beautiful. GREAT inspiration.

Beautiful Janell, thank you for being part of the DIY series. My portfolio will truly feature the best of the best!

The bird should really move to Seattle. You know how much I love papier mache! And this one is a keeper!

I bought that same little bird for a nursery I am doing! When I saw it, I stopped dead in my tracks...it was so cute, I picked it up gently and held it to my face like a real bird! The West Ems people looked at me like I had just been released for a day trip!!!
