A Little Beach Time & Looking For Your Input!

Yes, I probably should be home shopping and prepping for the big Thanksgiving celebration on Thursday...but instead my family has been chilling at the coast for the last few days. Don't be envious, there will be some big time scrambling going on tomorrow to make up for lost time!

On another note, I've been playing around with the idea of writing an online newsletter or a small eMagazine. People have inquired if this is something I might consider doing, but it was only when I realized this could potentially expand the range of topics beyond home design that it became a really interesting concept.

I have ideas about what content I would enjoy featuring, but I really want to hear your ideas. Would you subscribe and what would you be interested in reading about in this format? Let me know!

  1. Yes, go for it! I would definitely subscribe and if you need contributors, sign me up :) You do great tutorials, and more of the that would be great. How about women's issues -- changing topics all the time. Features on women in fashion, politics, etc, and where/how they live -- do they decorate themselves, who's their designer.

  13. Hi Janell,
I would read anything you published. Your blog is the first one I read every morning. I especially love your tutorials. Besides decor (my favorite topic), maybe some ideas for home orginization. Or entertaining ideas. Or ideas on how to get your spouse to put things back where they belong after he's done using it.

  17. Count me in as a subscriber! I enjoy the e-mag format, especially when you can click a link to take you to a source or more information about a product/technique. I think it would be a great format for you to branch out with your creativity!

  20. That's a great idea, Janelle. I think anything from home design, to family and cooking would be great ideas since that's every woman's daily life.

  21. First of all, I love the Oregon Coast, our family's favourite place to go! Second, I would subscribe as well, your blog is one I read daily. You have a great writing style and you are so full of ideas. I think a mix of diy, design and family would be a fantastic read!

  22. Yes, yes, yes! I would love to read it! You have so much expertise outside of interior design, I think you could write for days... children, fashion, cooking, travel, etc. Keep us all posted!!!

  23. I would totally read your eZine! Actually I have toyed with the idea myself after launching a few online endeavors in my last "job" in marketing. However, I think your point of view is very strong and your design is consistent, so the magazine should have your signature DIY design but as a dedicated section.

Second, I think there are tons of women who are professionals and Moms who would aspire to balance family and work. I think candid snapshots from your life or others about what it means to be "successful" is one aspect that is important. But that I also think on the flip side there should be a section that explains and shows the choices that women (and men) make to reach an ideal state. Lastly, I think this section should have definitions of "having it all" because no one really has it "all" so it would be good to hear how other people define it.

Next, I think there should be a section on gardening. Personally, I find it extremely difficult to find useful information on how to take care of plants, when to do outdoor plantings, how to select plants for my patio and what to do to keep them healthy.

Fitness: Not to be crass - but your body rocks and you are beautiful. So share your secrets for keeping fit, whether its a new exercise position or how to squeeze in exercise into a busy day.

    Food: It's yummy. Enuf said.

Honestly, you have a platform, the audience and the knowledge. Let yourself shine, grow and blossom. If you need help, I honestly would be excited to talk and see how I could help with your venture.

    Good luck!

  24. A newsletter is a great way to stay in touch with your audience. Hope you would choose Constant Contact for that! Let me know if you have any questions or need help :)

  25. I would absolutely read it. I don't think something so personal as your newsletter has to be pinned to just one topic. I try to be well-rounded and have more in my life than just glue-gunning. So I'd love fashion, travel, cooking, book suggestions...basically the kinds of stuff you talk about with all your girlfriends!

  26. Beautiful photos! I would love to see an emagazine from you! More diy and design but food, travel, and fashion would work too.

  27. I would absolutely subscribe AND contribute if asked ;-)

  28. You've been working hard, so a break is well deserved! Looks like a beautiful place to take one.

I think your e-mag or newsletter is a good idea. I'll stay tuned - it will be fun to see what you decide!

  29. Go for it!!!

  30. I love the beach and I think the e- magazine is a good idea. You share a lot of wisdom on your current blog; it seems like a natural transition.

  31. Beautiful photos - I hope you've been having a wonderful time!
What a fantastic idea - anything to build on what you are already so great at (decor, diy projects) would be great and perhaps some gardening stuff (?) since I don't come across too many blogs that offer info on planting flowers/veg, diy outdoor decor, etc. how exciting!! :)

  32. I love the idea of you giving more advice! You commented on my kitchen redo a few months back... and I wanted to say thanks for the nice thoughts. You were honestly my jumping off point when your kitchen caught my eye on roomzaar.com. I told everyone in the post, and continue, up until now to check you out for good design! I would be interested in hearing more about all of the painting project tips you have. You have got that down! Keep it up!

  33. Hi my friend,

What a treat to be enjoying the ocean with your family!

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.

An E-magazine is a great idea! I wouldn't mind design inspiration from different parts of the world. I love learning. And "hot gifts" (because I am always running out of good ideas). And the best & easiest family style recipe of the month! (In addition to design inspiration I am always desperately looking for new fun recipes!).

    Love to you.

    Mon

P.S Sorry I have not been visiting lately. I have been terribly busy with a project. Will tell you more soon.

  36. Hi Janell,
Gorgeous shots! I'm with Courtney, as many of us are now two income families and our life/work balance is always a challenge. Your photos alone prompted me to want to learn about weekend getaways for families on a budget, fun things to do with your children, design/decor and cooking is always of interest. I did enjoy your recent posts on working women and age as well. Us loyal fans would most likely enjoy anything you author -- as it's you that keeps us coming back!

  37. I would definitely subscribe! Love your style and creativity. I find that you are also so very helpful and respond to inquiries unlike some other blogs. I understand people need to limit their time on responses. But, I wanted to thank you for taking the time to interact with your readers.
