How Did They Let This Happen?

Max loves wearing his Dad's baseball caps, a different one is usually worn to school each day. On picture day he selected a very bright red cap and I questioned him about wearing it on this particular day. But both he and Isabella assured me the teachers and photographer would make him take it off. Okay, fine.

Then look what came home a couple weeks later!

I have to say, after getting over my initial surprise, I was delighted. This image is exactly him. No retakes here.

I'm so glad you feel that way, because it is a fabulous picture! Kudos to Max for picking it out, kudos to the photographer for having him (or letting him?) wear it, and kudos to you for recognizing that it is just right!

What a surprise! But, isn't it a gift to have a photo that actually represents where he is right now? Kudos to you for recognizing it for what it is!

That's hilarious! My sister had a similar surprise when her first grader's pictures came home. She had taken the time to make sure her hair was perfect when she left for school but apparently my niece had found some random barrettes in the bottom of her backpack and had put about four of them in her hair. She said the same thing as you, no retakes. She said this looked just like her daughter at this stage.

So much better than a perfectly posed "non-Max" picture. From what you've said about him it looks like these do reflect his personality perfectly! He's a doll, btw.

Loving your new blog look too!

OH! This is the most precious thing ever. I have to say I had a big belly laugh when I saw it. Soooo cute. I was thinking the exact same thing as you. This will be one of your very favorite photos in years to come....

(but just imagine how HE will feel about it!)

OMG Janell! This picture is PERFECT! Totally Max! I got a big belly laugh from this post...Thanks!

Most school pictures don't capture the true personality of your child.
You are lucky to have this. What a sweet face!

You're awesome! i'll never forget my 4th grade pictures and how mad my mom was that i let my best friend "do" my hair for me while we stood in line for our photos. Those pictures still haunt me...... i'll never know how she made me look like i had a mullet - but she sure did!

Jade @ Flip Flops + Pearls Design said...

Ha! At least it captured his personality! I spaced on my daughter's school picture day & sent her in her normal play clothes...yep, I was THAT parent. All the other kids were all spiffed up! I felt horrible! Oh well, she's 2 so there are plenty other school pictures to come!

haha, how sweet. he looks so cute! good call on the no retake - it's a sweet story :)

How cute! I'd much rather see a picture of my child in his or her natural state vs trying to pose and fake a smile ha! Great picture!

Funny, and adorable!

I think that's just perfect. I never let my kids get too dressed up for picture day. I want to remember them exactly how they were at that age. It's an awesome picture.

I love this!! I have a photo of me like this in elementary school where one of my braids is sticking out to the side - totally typical me for that age!

Your son is adorable, with or without the cap. Love the picture.

I can't get over the fact you posted this today! I literally looked at my daughter's photos this morning and thought the same thing!

She has an unmatched headband on and it looks like she woke up from a restless night's sleep and then rubbed her hair with a balloon.

I caved on the sun-dress until we compromised on the cute shrug to wear over it....the photo came back sans the shrug and with one strap of the sun-dress hanging off the shoulder.

I had a moment of UGH and then I said Oh well. Pretty big moment for me!

On Jack's first day of Kindergarten another mom took a picture of us and he has a TERRIFIED look/smile. No retakes for us either. :-)

That is priceless. It will probably go down as your favorite school picture ever. That's what it's all about.

Megan {Honey We're Home} said...

Ha! It's a great picture- so endearing how he loves to wear dad's hats. He's a super cute boy.

decor4poor@blogspot.com said...

That is ridiculous! I would be so mad. It is the one day of the whole school year you one your child to look awesome. I love the hat, but the photographer was the adult and should have known better.

SHERRY HART said...

Please...who could not love that face...hat or not!

Susan @ sweetimaginations said...

That's wonderful! I love the look on his face like he knows he's doing something he shouldn't. I bet this will be the favorite photo years later when you look back.

Oh my gosh that is TOO CUTE!

Karen@StrictlySimpleStyle said...

I promise you, you will love and appreciate that photo one day. (Of course I think it's adorable now!) I remember when my daughter insisted on wearing tacky plastic rings to school every day and even sneaked on on her finger when she was a flower girl at my sister-in-law's wedding. Now, I love the photos from the wedding, it shows her personality, just like Max is showing his.

Cassie {Hi Sugarplum!} said...

HILARIOUS! My daughter has her own 'unique' way of dressing...I force myself to let her dress her way on picture day...the point is to document them in that stage, right? :)

She may cringe when she's older and wonder why I didn't make her wear matching shoes...but my response will just be, "That was you. That's how you dressed EVERY DAY when you were 4!" :)

Our family's best school picture is my daughter's at about 6. We labored over getting the braided pigtails perfect and with the missing teeth and bangs she cut off at the skin line it's precious. Even her best friend carries a copy (she's now 16.)

I was going to say "DON"T RETAKE" if that was where you were going! I love when a photograph can capture a personality

As Bruno once said as he wrapped himself up in a boa on Dancing With The Stars... I am what I am :-) I think Max looks great in his dad's baseball cap. And he picked a great colour for picture day! :-)

That is hilarious:} What a great picture to look back on someday too.

I work in a school and we had 1 parent write a note and pin it to their child asking the photographer NOT to comb his hair or do anything different to the child. The parents truly wanted a picture that captured their child as is;}

So cute! I recall being at a PTA meeting and the principal "reminding" us that no one can fix your child's hair before the picture (I didn't get why). In any case he looks great and it truly represents him.
