This Week's Ideabook On Houzz: A Different Kind Of Beach House

Don't get me wrong, I have an ongoing love affair with the classic beach house look. White beadboard mixed with pale blues, greens, and yellows, comfortable country furniture and linens. But another type of beach house has captured my imagination. A beach house that could be perched in the woods above the water, with lines and finishes inspired by the spirit of Frank Lloyd Wright. Pale warm woods, modern furniture, and limited color palettes that allow the peaceful setting to become the star.

There is certainly something intriguing about a beach home situated in more northern locations, with the house often placed within a woods. This setting creates a special feeling that only a home nestled among the trees can have. Then add in a water view, could there be a more perfect spot for a bit of relaxation?

I hear you. My husband is Australian and we spend our time in Australia in a beach town called Noosa.....a lot of the houses are perched way up overlooking the water...and the design there is much more natural and modern. I love the look. Now off to check out your feature. Have a great weekend.

Lovely. I love an ocean view but I think I prefer the woods/mountains even more for relaxation.

Have a lovely 4th, Janell!

Yes, too many photos assume that beach means hot, hot, hot. In more northern climes, decor isn't that easy and a warmer/wooded look saves the day.
I live right by the water and it still gets dang chilly in winter!

Loved this ideabook! My husband and I have had our eyes on a beach property, and this is just the aesthetic I have in mind for the potential remodel. How exciting to see some of the ideas that had previously been only in my head actually in print! Thanks :)
