Kitchen Island Pendant Lights Revealed

I got up quite early in the morning to take these photos of the newly hung, fabric covered pendants. Why? Because once the kids wake up, breakfast and all their various projects will quickly take over the area. (Can anytime tell me just how early?)

Before...

and after.

I love how the Cat's Cradle fabric looks on the pendants and in the room, both with the lights turned on and off.

There was just one little surprise after the project was complete. When showing off the result to my husband this is what he said, "I've never been a fan of pendant lights."

What?!?!?

This was news to me and I had to wonder why this didn't come up before the "reveal". This never happens to any of you, right?

Oh well, as things tend to come and go in this house, I suspect they will eventually be sold when I come up with another idea for island lighting. But for now...I'm loving them!

Ha! I can completely relate to your reaction to your husband. Sometimes I just don't understand them.

Seriously though, the fabric is gorgeous and I love how it looks with your window shade. It goes beautifully with your kitchen, and adds a little punch of pattern in the perfect spot.

Never been a fan of pendants? Funny how information is trickled out of our loved ones :) I think your new lighting is fabulous and when you put them up for sale, I will be the first in line.

Yep, I definitely love them as much as I thought I would :) They're perfect.

As for your husband, tell him he cannot make comments like that without feeling the wrath of hundreds of your female followers :)

I really like the pendant lights, especially showing them with the lights on and off. They really turned out fantastic. At one point in time I was not a big fan of pendant lights myself and I have just recently been converted. Really nice unveil!

Just beautiful! Love the fabric, and the pendants! Hah, gotta love men, my dad pulled that on us about 2 years ago with "I've never liked pineapple." Really?? We were in Hawaii at the DOLE Pineapple factory when we were younger and he ate it then and in fruit salad's since then, maybe it was just a passing phase, or we all just chose to ignore it? And they think we're weird?? :) *Amy

They're beautiful! Just tell your husband how hard you worked on them, and perhaps he'll come around! Sometimes things just have to become part of the landscape for you to get used to them.

BTW, my husband has done this when he's actually CHOSEN the item I ordered!!!

I LOVE them! Its funny that you're husband says he never liked pendant lights. When Tony says things like that, I reply "oh, when did you have time to consider it?"!

Oh, and if Rene doesn't take them off your hands when you decide to sell, I will;-)

I absolutely love them ! I get that response too, usually when I propose an idea, like recovering our master headboard. He resisited, but now loves it. Yep, every now and then, the hub does disagree, but it keeps it interesting !! Perhaps he'll grow to love them as we all do in time !

They turned out great! My husband always disagrees about the stuff I choose but I have to remind him before I came along, he had plaid sofas, ducks on the wall, and mismatched EVERYTHING so he totally loses his right to consultation!

Mrs. Chic said...

They turned out so pretty. The same things happens with my husband and I - he doesn't like something, then i remind ask him to trust me and then after its done he loves it! lol go figure :)

They're gorgeous. I'd guess you were up around 6, given the clear daylight outside!
Sigh, husbands. Double sigh, husbands and lighting. Mine would fill the house with fluorescent strip lights if I let him.

Janell they look wonderful! Your roman shade pairs beautifully too :)

Doesn't like pendant lamps?!? I feel your pain. Sometimes I get so excited about a decor item and the Mr. is just 'whatever' about it. Ugh men.

Kristin @ My Uncommon Slice of Suburbia said...

They are gorgeous Janell and just the perfect amount of sophistication (sp) If that were me I would have to be up at 5 am to snap the photo's before one of the monkeys came down :) I bet your hubby will start to love them, give it time. My hubby just doens't say anything, that is a big enough hint. Enjoy your day!!

To give my husband credit, he now claims he likes them!! :)

As for the stools, they were found about 7 years ago at http://www.ubhip.com/products/chairs/view/barstools/C40/P0/

Unfortunately the no longer have a similar style.

They look wonderful, Janell! I really love that fabric and how it works with your kitchen. Usually if my hubby doesn't like something, I know about it right away. But then again, I let him know right away when I don't like something! : )

WOW! I'll admit I had a hard time for some reason visualizing this but I love the effect! Another fabulous addition to the kitchen!

I love how you continue to see the space in a new light.

Keep it coming girl!

They look fabulous, Janell! Glad you're loving them after all the work you put into everything. Can I just ask you one thing? What does it take to get that clean and tidy a kitchen each night? Maybe if I had the kitchen of my dreams, I would work harder at keeping it beautiful. Maybe I'm being naive...:)

Janell @ Isabella and Max said...

Michiganhome, I was wondering when someone would ask this!! I have the kids clean up their mess before the end of the night...because I want them to learn how to do things for themselves (and not become spoiled!) and I like a nice peaceful and tidy end to a long day. It makes me and the hubby happy, the kids? Perhaps not so much!!

they are lovely!!! I am truly in love with the Cats Cradle fabric-now Im running around my house trying to find a place to put it! As for your hubs dislike for pendant lights-I can totally relate!! My husband had a distaste for the chandeliers with the big drum shades- of course i didnt find this out until after he installed ours-but it has since grown on him and he admits it does fit the space. So there is hope for your hubs :-)

I love them! I hope your hubby defers to your expertise on this one. :)

Very cool! Cracked up at your husband's comment--seems like something my own would say. Glad he's come around now, at least, and likes them! :)

They're scrumptious. I can't believe you covered them yourself!

I think they look great! Isn't it annoying when our husbands have opinions? :)

I think they turned out great - I just love your fabric selection. My hubby definitely has an opinion and he feels free to share it before or after a project as well - gotta love them!

Love the pendants! I usually know what my hubby likes/dislikes and know which items might be borderline (that I ask him for his opinion). However, he does surprise me sometimes! For example: classic bin pulls. Who doesn't like them? Him apparently! Never would have thought to ask him but now I know he thinks they are ugly! What?!?!

I love the pop of the pattern in the kitchen. I'm wondering, how high are you ceilings. I love this look, but my island counter is high and I'm wondering if the shades would obstruct a person's view if they were sitting at the counter.

Kathysue said...

Janell, I think when he sees how much you love them and how well recieved they will be by visitors he will quickly change his mind. I can not believe what a transformation you have made in your kitchen and all with paint and fabric. This is a great example of ingenuity at its best, I am so excited for you!! It is wonderful,Kathysue

Husbands are funny sometimes, aren't they? :-) I think the island turned out fabulous, and I really like the punch of personality that the fabric adds to the pendant lights!

These look fantastic! Such a great job. I want to add this print to the lamp shades for my bedroom. Thanks for the inspiration again!

Carol said...

What size are the shades?

Janell @ Isabella and Max said...

The shades are 7" high and 11" wide (or 35" in diameter). Thanks for asking this question! Janell
