Hi everyone! When Janell asked if I would like to do a post on her blog my first thought was, "Are you kidding me?! Sure I would!" I love Janell AND her blog! It is actually the first blog that I discovered and she is the reason why I started my own blog!
Today I'm going to talk about one of my favorite hobbies: thrifting! To me, thrifting consists of going to Goodwill and other second hand stores, searching Craigslist, yard sales and estate sales. I love the idea of finding great pieces with tons of potential and turning them into something fabulous!
For instance, here are a few of my finds that have been given new life, or are well on their way...
My headboard that I found on Craigslist for $35.

I took it from the original walnut finish and painted it with Rust-Oleum's Heirloom White. Now it looks great against the chocolate brown walls in my bedroom!

Then you have this french dresser that I found for $50 (seriously) that wasn't in bad shape, but I wanted it to be a little more "fun". So I painted it turquoise, which is very unexpected for a vintage piece.

Before

After
I know all of you hit the floor, like I did, when you saw the transformation of Janell's slipper chairs, right?

Well, imagine my surprise when I went into one of my Goodwill stores and found the exact chairs for $25 each!

I have BIG plans for these babies ;)
Oh, and one last thing, check out this small chest of drawers that I found for $30, and it was already painted!

Wouldn't it look nice in a bathroom, kind of like Janell used in her powder room?!

Now tell me, have you been thrifting lately?! If so, what did you find? And if not, what are you waiting for?!
Thanks again Janell for giving me the chance to talk about one of my favorite topics!
Thanks Lakeitha! Isn't it just stunning what great finds are out there to grab? All it takes is a bit of vision to see past its current state to the possibilities of what the piece can become.

Hi ladies! Janell's blog was also one of the first that I found. And I also recently started a blog to document our apartment/ and soon-to-be house decorating adventures! I love looking at the projects that you ladies take on! Thanks for all the inspiration!

Mrs. Duncan you are finding some steals!! Can I send you some $$ and you can ship them to CA!! I love reading both your blogs! For the many chic ideas :)
Oh my gosh - your finds are fabulous! I love and am addicted to thrifting, which my mother introduced me too. I have not found the bounty of case goods lately that you are running across!
Glad to see you here!
Welcome over here Lakeitha!! Can I tell you how jealous I am of your really fun thrifting finds!! And that turquoise dresser- LOVE it!!
great job, Lakeitha! I"m a Junker (or thrifter) from way back, and I never cease to enjoy the thrill of the hunt. I repurposed a French provencial dresser like yours as a sink cabinet in my bathroom. I painted it in a decorative pattern to match the Mexican pottery sink that I put into it. thanks for doing such a good job for Janelle.
