Tonight at bedtime Max kept jumping out of bed, pointing to places he had been, to show me where a cousin lives and where he wants to go next. So...the effort was certainly worth it!

Painting Maps In The Big Boy's Bedroom - Finished!
I'll be the first to admit I took liberties when it came to the layout of the land masses in relationship to one another. But let me blame it on the "client". As I worked my way through this project, painting various areas of the globe on Max's walls, he keep adding more requests: what about Mexico, Japan, Paris? Okay, okay, I'll see what I can do...

Tonight at bedtime Max kept jumping out of bed, pointing to places he had been, to show me where a cousin lives and where he wants to go next. So...the effort was certainly worth it!

possibly the most wondermous boy's bedroom eva! what a lucky guy he is. you have encouraged so much creativity...bravo!
What a fantastic way to teach him where the different countries are and the fact that he wants to know is awesome. I am still so in love with the lamps and your fabric! I want his room!
HIs room is magazine worthy! How did you paint the maps? You really are so talented! Love it all~

I love this room. You did such an incredible job on the maps and really everything. What a wonderful space for your son to call his own!
It looks amazing! He'll have so many fond memories of this room when he gets older.
Wow, that's so creative. I love the chalkboard stripe that's like a chairrail around the room. It really looks good too - not a drop of amateur in it!
you scored big time with this room! I'm totally inspired by this for my boys room although I can't draw a straight line! max is such a cool kid with an even cooler mom!!!
The map looks wonderful and what a great idea. So great for him to see where everything is. The look is fabulous. Hugs, Marty
Well, I was in no way a geography major, so you don't have to worry about me knowing the difference :) Looks wonderful!
Oh, how funny ZoeB, looking at the photo I do see how plumb Ms. Britian is!! Oh well, I could have projected the map on the walls and traced, but it seemed like too much work and I kind of like how it isn't so perfect. :) Janell
Love the map, love the room. One thing I noticed when looking at it, is the lamp shade design almost looks like land masses. I love that lampshade and the dresser. Just love this whole room! Kathysue
sooo gorgeous! I bet the little boy is so ecstatic!I wouldn't mind having a room like this myself! All the doodles I would do in those walls...
It looks great!! I'm sure your son loves it!
Quite seriously one of the most amazing boy's rooms I've seen! I am so in love. I had to drag my husband over to see it (he has impeccable taste) and he was so impressed. (That's a huge compliment!) I told him we're off to IKEA to find stuff for our oldest's room....too bad I can't paint maps on the wall. ;-)
the room turned out great!
AMAZING!! His room is so perfect, I love how it came out! I'm totally saving this in my file for "kids rooms I love", maybe I'll use the idea for my own kid one day :)
I have never seen anything like this before...Truly Amazing..how do you come up with this stuff?

His room turned out cute. I like the maps and chalkboard stripes alot
I LOVE the maps and it's so much fun that he does too! You did an awesome job, Janell, but of course that's not surprising to me at all. :-)
what a lucky kid. great job!
I can't believe you did that all yourself. It looks AMAZING, and nothing short of. He is brains and beauty! So cool he is into geography like he is.
Certainly worth it - this looks great!!!
i love the mixture of all the colors you used and think that rug is just PERFECT! it looks fantastic!!
Yay, I can see Australia. Where it bumps out on the east side, that's where I am writing from to tell you, having 2 boys myself, that this room is positively the most perfect boys room I have ever laid eyes on. Quick someone from a magazine, pounce on this will you! A-M xx
This looks great! What wonderful memories he will have from his mom who loves him!
love the chalkboard paint. you are so creative. i just love what you do...
TOTALLY AWESOME!!! Max is a lucky dude. And you are lucky to have such a cool son:) It looks wonderful, Janel! Educational, inspirational, adventurous, whimsical:)
You did an amazingly great job!!
Since I don't have kids, I don't have a inspiration folder for pictures of kids' rooms. But I just made a new one, just for that room. Love, love.
I had this globe in my room when I was a kid that I was OBSESSED with. I used to give my little sister history lessons on it when we were in grade school, and I'd point out all the places that I wanted to go. I definitely think it contributed to my desire to travel and fascination with maps as an adult.
Anyway, for those reasons there is a special place in my heart for this project! I absolutely adore it. And I'm completely blown away that you were able to paint this yourself. SO IMPRESSIVE.
Kelly
He can plot all the wonderful places he'll travel! And the maps look great. I can tell what countries those are!
That is too cool! I think the "map" looks awesome and think it's so neat that he can point to so many travel spots.
AMAZING!!! I love it and you're so good!! what a cool cool room-- I bet his friends will all be jealous!! This needs to be in a magazine Janell!
xoxo,
lauren
Janell, that is a fabulous room! You have one very lucky son! I just love watching your projects! xo
So impressed! He is one lucky guy!
OMG, Janell! Where the heck have I been? I missed this whole thing...but WOW! Have to go and look at more of the related posts and processes. The room is wonderful!
Best,
Suzanne
P.S. I was just looking for maps today - for a totally different type of project. Funny how i should stumble upon this today. :-)
What a fun room. My kids would have loved a room like that. And educational too!
WOW! This room is just amazing! Love your maps. I have been wanting to do areas of chalkboard paint over my boys beds but need to ask you... how is the dust? I am wondering if I need to add a rail below to hold chalk and catch the dust. Any feedback would be great.
Danika
Dust isn't an issue, he doesn't go on a drawing craze everyday...sometimes things will stay for a few weeks before he gets the urge to write/draw something else with friends, his sister, me or on his own.
When it is time to erase we use a large old cotton towel and it really does collect most of the chalk.
However, a chair rail would be a great solution to collecting any dust that there is. A brilliant idea!
Janell
