I printed several maps depicting areas of the globe and showed them to Max. He selected his favorites and I pulled out the paint brushes.
Using a dark paint Alaska was outlined with a small painters brush.
Then Canada was added.
Followed by Greenland and Iceland. Max's reaction after arriving home from school: "Greenland is icy and Iceland is not." Okay...smarty pants.
After the outlines were complete the land areas were painted a couple shades darker than the wall color.
Next, on to another wall and Australia. I hope to finish this project quickly, otherwise I'll have one disappointed boy!

This look is so strong - For some reason I have always loved maps and have thought of them as inspirational. Putting them in this room in this context is a really great design approach. I really like it!

Erika, VERY good idea! Great advice for anyone wanting to do a similar project. But I figured I'd spend more time just tracking down a projector. Besides, my BFA is in painting, if I can't paint a map after years of art school I'm in trouble! I can just imagine my professors "constructive" criticism! Yikes!
Looks amazing so far! To funny I remember my little brainiac coming home from school at a young age saying the samething to me about Greenland and Iceland! ;)
Wow, your creativity never stops, I love it!
Oh. My. Gosh. I've been obsessed with maps lately, so I'm particularly impressed with this!

What a perfect room! Your boy will wake up every morning with the world at his feet! I love it.
Unbelievable - does Max know how lucky he is? Granted, you went to art school, but STILL!!

That room is looking so cool! I love the chalkboard stripe in the center of the room. I may have to do something like that for my boys when they get a little older. The maps are looking great!

This is wonderful! My son's nursery is travel inspired, and I so see a giant map like this in his future (when he's old enough to appreciate all the hard work)!
You really are "OUT OF THIS WORLD!"
I wish it were my room!!! NOW!
Wonderfully creative.

That is an awsome idea. Love it thanks for sharing.
Maps are never easy to be drawn even on a piece of paper using pencil and eraser. It is really amazing to see the map on wall and what’s more amazing is that you did it by hand. Surely, home owners as well as painting contractors Denver CO will find your post very informative. Great job!
Show interests with what your child is studying in school by helping out in painting a wall in his/her bedroom to help inspire interest in map reading as well as history. A unique yet educational design that home owners as well as home builders Missouri may find intriguing and unique. Thanks for sharing!
