I have been dreaming about the stylish Conservatory Chair from Anthropologie since spotting it last year. Then the other day this Surankari Mason fabric at Calico Corners caught my eye...

...while later in the day I stumbled upon this chair on eBay.

I bid, I won and now it is on its way to me.
So my challenge? Refinish and reupholster the eBay Chair to capture the essence of the Conservatory Chair. It won't have the same oversized floral pattern or as much yellow but, with the addition of a lumbar pillow, I think I can address that issue.
I know, I know, I've started too many projects and need to close out others before I begin another! Prior to even touching this project I will wrap up the Home Office Redesign. Hold me to it!

I love your ebay chair and I also really like the fabric on it. I can't wait to see what you do. I know it will be gorgeous. How about just a lumbar pillow in a huge floral print on the chair as it is. Anyway. Hugs, Marty
what a great project. would love to see the after shots! xo!
great chair and LOVE your fabric!
What a great looking chair you won, Janell! I think that fabric will look great on it. I think it's okay to have the next project waiting in the wings!

This will look awesome...cannot wait to see the finished product.
Please come live with me. And bring your chairs. Thanks.

great fabric and that chair is SO similar to the anthro version. ohh the cash you will save! Saving on an item or project always makes it better for me!
I love your interpretation! It's a great look - I'm so into grey this year, and a grey floral is nicely sophisticated. Looking forward to the pics!
Love it!!! You might want to consider painting the chair a white (dove white from BM?) to give it a modern feel.

Lisa from Destination Seaborn has a great like to a reupholstery tutorial that may be helpful to you!

Erika, You are the best! I just went to the link and it is exactly the tutorial I needed to find. I've bookmarked it for the day I start this project, thanks! Janell
Yah! So happy my tutorial will help! Love the inspiration chair and love the fabric you have chosen! Can't wait to see the "after" pictures!!!!
love love love it! It will look stunning!
While Anthropologie's chair is beautiful I can't see how that crewel work would hold up if you actually sat in the chair very much. Yours is going to look awesome and stay looking awesome.

I'm so glad you won that chair! It's going to look fantastic in that fabric. I can't wait to see the final result.
P.S. I also have about 10 projects going at the same time right now, probably not the smartest strategy to get anything done, but what can you do? When you see a bargain or perfect fit, you have to go for it.
I love the character of the chair and that fabric is going to look fabulous on it! I was at Calico Corners not too long ago and didn't see that fabric so it must have come in since. I definitely need to go back and check it out. Love it!
This chair, the Max sofa, the light fixture, and wallpaper...Are you opening an interior design studio?!!!
I hope I'm right! Oh yeah, I love that chair and the fabric so when they meet each other, it's going to be FABULOUS!
oh---it's going to be so fabulous!
i LOVE that suzani fabric. the colors are amazing.

Are you going to reupholster the chair yourself? Just curious as I know with other ones, you had a professional do it. We have similar chairs and I was going to try, but there is double-piping all around the edges and I've heard it's incredibly hard to do. So if you do a tutorial, please be sure you explain the piping!! :o)
We scored two very similar chairs off of Craigslist about a month ago. When I went into Calico Corners last week to find fabric, I realized that the chairs were actually 2 of their "Calico Corner basic white" chairs and that were originally $1000 each (we paid $100 each - SCORE!) - I even found the original fabric that the chairs had been upholstered with. The Anthropolgie chair also looks also very similar to the Calico Corners one.
For other posters, if you are lusting over this chair, I'm learning that they are actually not too hard to find. Keep your eyes open on Craigslist for one (or eBay).
Now I'm bummed though. I had no idea what to do with the chairs, so we just finished spraying them with black paint. Although they look great, my guess is that I'm going to see your finished one and want to change the color. :o)

I can't wait to see what you do with your chair... great find.
Love the fabric and love the chair!
I just adore that fabric and think it will look fabulous on the chair...I can't wait!!! Isn't Anthropologie yummy? And a bit dangerous? ;-)
Its going to look amazing- I love the chair and with that fabric on it- it will just send it over the top! Two great choices paired together :)
just found your blog :) can't wait to see the big reveal!
I love your fabric even more than the one on Anthropologie!
I love your fabric even more than the one on Anthropologie!
I think Averill and I were separated at birth - I like your fabric better, too. It has just a bit more staying power compared with the Anthro one.
Great win! The projects never end....ever!
Hi, Janell--
Can't wait to see how your chair project turns out! I know it's going to be smashing in the Surankari. For a lumbar pillow, I like your idea of picking up the gold in the suzani pattern. When you go to Calico Corners, be sure to look at GROUPIE in color MING (a gold color).
It's a complex woven with yarns of many colors, including a little Lurex that gives the fabric a subtle shimmer, but it's not glitzy. GROUPIE is on the Calico website at www.calicocorners.com--and if you use the magnifying feature, you can see the intricacies of the weave. Happy decorating!
Best,
Jan Jessup
Great find! I'm really looking forward to seeing how it turns out
I have a very sumilar style chair that I re-did a few years back and of course what to re-do it again with a pattern fabric in the future maybe for a nurshey?
Terrific fabric - I think your end product will look even better than the Anthro chair! Marija
I LOVE that fabric, and it will look amazing on that chair (what a great find!) Can't wait to see it in the end!
Sounds like me. I need to start finishing up projects. I love the chair and can't wait to see what you do with it!
Janell, I like the fabric you found better. That si fabulous and the chair is perfect for it. You don't even need to refinish it unless it is bad shape but the color is perfect! I cannot wait to see it finished.

Can't wait to see the final result. love the chair and fabric..
Oh, I love the floral inspiration chair, I really think that you could paint that (floral design) with your talents, use paint with fabric medium! I think it would lovely painted on a silk shantung or taffeta!
I love the projects you do! I am a project starter too.
