Hanging Art On The Chalkboard Wall

I am determined to hang the art on the chalkboard wall by the end of the week. If it wasn't for the fact that I have an audience, you, I'd be seriously tempted to just start hanging the frames, hoping it would all work out! Instead, I decided I'd better formulate a plan.

If you read this post you know my initial shopping trip to find several frames was less than successful. Had I gone to Michael's first that wouldn't have been the case. After a stop there I came away with everything I needed to proceed with this project.

Now I can move on to art wall layout. Lengths of paper are rolled out and taped together, to replicate the size as the chalkboard wall.

Next the outline of the cabinet is drawn onto the paper...

providing a visual of what the art will be hung above.

Then I started playing around with the layout of the frames.

Adding more...

and more.

Roscoe had to come see what I was doing. Can you believe he later made a snack out of the small gold frame? I had special plans for that one, a small Valentine's Day gift for my husband. I'll try to repair it later today.

In the meantime, the layout isn't quite right yet...but I'll work it out. I'm realizing it was a good idea to use this paper rather than to randomly start hammering holes into the chalkboard wall!

Looks like you are on the right track for sure! Maybe Roscoe thought you were going for the distressed look!

Everytime I see a wall with lots of frame like this. I always admired how they incorporate small and large frames together. Did'nt occur to me that it would be this easy.

Great techniques. Thanks Janelle, i learn something today!

I think that is Roscoe's way of saying he like it. LOL!

Coming along..patience is a virtue. ;D I find it hard to maintain too. The continuity is great among the artwork and frames. Loving it!!

Laying out the wall on paper was a brilliant idea! Much better than a wall of holes! I can't wait to see how the wall turns out.

Ooh tomorrow there's a big auction of frames here in Paris - I'm sure you'd find just the frames you'd need (check out the catalogue here -

I am excited to see the final result...I am the type that starts hammering, and then regrets my hastiness. I need to take a cue and plan it out ahead of time.

I had a question...the framed fabric in your daughter's room...what is it? I love it!!

THANKS!

What an interesting way to practice arranging! I've seen folks cut paper out in the shape of the frames and tape those on the wall, but I like this idea better as it involves an awful lot less cutting!

(And isn't it weird how blogging about projects really makes you dot all your "i's" and cross all your "t's"??)

I wish I had the patience to do this. You inspire me though and I will try it. I hope your gold frame is repaired.

This looks fabulous so far! My client turned me on to a site that sells pre-packaged frames and templates but this is so much more authentic. And I love the idea of leaving some of these frames empty...

Excited to see the outcome!

Great idea. Love the look so far. I did something similar in my kids playroom recently but I traced the frames and stuck the paper on the walls until I was happy with a layout. Can't wait to see it finished.
