The Living Room Redesign was a room of creams, tans and black with the exception of a large orange lamp shade. The plan was to bring in a touch of color and pattern through pillows. Prior to shopping for fabrics I drew my color inspiration from this San Francisco print hanging in the adjacent entry.
Three beautiful fabrics were found. First the Como, a cotton velvet in a rusty orange. The second was the Carlisle, a print with a touch of orange alongside the pink. The orange in this brocade helps the pink work in the room and coordinates perfectly with the orange lamp shade. The final fabric I selected was a geometric, the Baxley in flannel. The print is masculine, balancing the other fabrics, while giving a nod to the "wallpaper" design above the fireplace.
The Baxley and Como fabrics arrived within a week, while the Carlisle took three months to appear on my doorstep. Patience is required when working on a design! Finally the last of the fabrics was delivered and the final pillows made this past weekend. It was worth the wait.

What a gorgeous room! Excellent work.
Great job. In that last photo, it looks like the lamp shade has a pattern, too... does it?
Finished product looks great. I love how you have this space just inside the front door for client work, etc. but it doesn't look like an office. (I did read you use it for work, right?) So jealous. You are very talented.
Looks great! I love the orange Carlisle fabric, it gives a great pop of colour!
Interesting question, the exposure is NE, and it used as a work space.
And the last photo, taken quickly as the day light faded, (I find it virtually impossible to take photos in my house at night...so frustrating!) shows the light coming through the lampshade. It does look like a pattern, but no, just a plain cotton/linen with a textured weave.

I love this room. The colors are fantastic. You have a beautiful home and great style. Have a beautiful day.
Love the pillows in room! That fabric is so nice. I don't know if you noticed, but the space look like it was designed around the Garden Party Necklace at the top of your page! LOVE IT...
The room looks lovely. I really like the pillows!
So lovely and perfect yet warm and inviting at the same time. Fabulous job!
Does your husband complain about the pillows? I get grief if I dare add too many :P
Husbands and pillows...I've heard of this problem! This is my spot, thank you very much, I'll invite him in on occasion and he'll just have to deal with the abundance of pillows! His spot is across the entry, perhaps just one pillow will show up there.

The pillows do add the perfect touch here. I think they are great with the couch fabric and design. This room, in fact, just pulls me in.
Oh this turned out to be so gorgeous! I love it. If your pillows are missing, you know who took them :)

It looks wonderful, Janell! I think this project is a good example of taking your time to do it right the first time. Too many people want it done overnight, but in the long run I don't think it winds up having lasting power when you rush to get it done.
Definitely worth the wait, they're lovely. Icing on the cake:)
This looks amazing! Loving the fireplace!
You do know how to pull a space together, so pretty ! Fabulous my dear.
It's amazing what some throw pillows can do to a room. I love it...they really speak to the lamp shade and tie the whole room together.
gorgeous, janell.

Oh, lordy. I do NOT have time to read through your archives, but now I must. I love what you're doing!
Fabulous! I adore those pillows...especially the "como" aaah!
Ooops! Think I meant the Carlisle..is that the brocade with the flowers? I'm all mixed up....regardless, it looks perfect!
Beautiful! You always know how to add the perfect amount of details! I love this room!
Love it!!! Looks good, I love all the patterns working together!

Terrific job! Lovely fabric combos. You have inspired me to get my sewing machine out of the closet and start using it again. Can't wait to see your next project!
PS I just found the Catherine Lamp at Target on clearance!
Your fabric choices are marvelous. What a gorgeous room!
Gorgeous Janell! Just lovely! Your pillows are beautiful. I love the solids with the fabulous pattern.

Love how that orange and pink pop against the gray. Just lovely, and so sophisticated, I think! Your room really turned out great.

Hi there,
This is my first time on your blog and I really like it!
Love the cushions. They are beautiful!
love the cushion fabric ... best le
FABULOUS pillows! They add just the right pop of color in the room. I really love your decorating style and colors in your home. gorgeous!
I've just found your blog and I'm so excited!! This room is spot-on with what I'm hoping to achieve with my own living room makeover - I love the wonderful mix of classic and modern in your geometric prints, incorporation of bright orange, soft lines in the furniture and more subdued window coverings.
I was wondering where you bought the great orange lampshade? And if you have any recommendations for a trellis print that might come close to your painted fireplace?
Thank you!
The living room redesign is finally done. Have a look at it
