The Case Of The Missing Home Design Event At Target

It has become a tradition that I look forward to each January: The Home Design Event held at Target. As holiday decor is cleared out a new temporary shop emerges full of interesting home decor.

Originally called "World Market" last year it was renamed the "Home Design Event", with a more contemporary point of view. For a brief time the aisles are filled with the good (and the sometimes not so good) finds from here and there around the world.

One gift under my tree this year was a Target gift card and I held onto to, despite several trips to Target, awaiting the arrival of this event. I happily anticipated finding at least one little treasure to bring home with the card.

Here are my finds from the last several years...shown in a variety of rooms in our current and previous home, if you are confused with the below images!

Metal Clock With Alligator Texture. My all time favorite find.

Buddha Head and Rustic Disk. The peaceful face inspired me to bring it home.

A Wooden Horse. Perfect for a boy's room.

A Globe With A Drawer. Also for Max's room(s), he stashes away his latest treasures in the tiny compartment.

And last year, The Flower Bowl. Love.

But look what awaited shoppers, and myself, this year.

I'm sorry Target, I am completely uninspired. I can stock up on TP any time of year.

I understand it may not have continued to make business sense, with the current state of the economy, but I will miss this tradition.

Perhaps I'll make another tradition. Shopping for shoes. Look at the little cuties I found in Target's shoe aisle. Can you believe I carried away both with my $25.00 gift card plus $1?

I would like to see pillows inspired by these shoes! I am tempering my expectations on how they will hold up to wear...but how completely adorable.

p.s. I see Target has an online Home Design Event through Saturday on their website, but it just isn't the same...

Oh my gosh...I can't tell you how many times I asked the cashier when the home event would be. I SO look forward to it too! I was so sad to hear it would not be coming this year. I do love those shoes! :)

Yes, I know what you mean. I'll pass on the pack of 6 cheap towels for $10. Love the shoes though!

sad. i like that event as well and had no idea!

I feel the same way! I was in Target over the weekend and stopped by the area that usually has the event and...just piles of towels and TP and other very boring stuff in bins!

So disappointed as I, too, had been holding on to a Target giftcard for the occasion.

Yeah - what's up with that. I always look forward to that "event" too.

Love your shoes, though.

My sister and I were just talking about that! I was so looking forward to see what they had and instead I feel like I walked into the Dollar Store. I am not impressed.

I heart Target! I can't believe all of the wonderful items you've accumulated from there over the years - great stuff! Too bad it wasn't up and running this year. Great shoes, though.

How disappointing. My daughter bought the metallic shoes with the flowers, too! I stocked up on several pairs of great sandals for summer.........but no great house stuff.

That's happened to me before with other annual events. I look forward to it all year and then it's discontinued, with no warning given. You got nice shoes out of it though!

I was actually staying away from Target so I wouldn't be tempted to buy anything this year...guess I have avoided for no reason....but those shoes are reason enough to head over...

I was in Target yesterday for a quick run through and when I checked out someone behind me was buying those silver cuties. Love them!

I did not realize they were not having their home event either. There was some restocking going on where the Christmas decor was but didn't pay attention to what it was. I loved the World Market displays last year (or was it the year before?).

Happy shopping in those cute shoes!

I was thinking the same thing when I went in there after Christmas! I did grab some of those hangers that were in that section for my laundry room redesign!!!

Maybe once they find out how many people they disappointed this year, they'll bring it back? On a positive note - the shoes are adorable!

Amen sister! I am going to email them and tell them how disappointed I am!

I am so sad it's not coming to our local Target either. I always stock up on crazy-fantastic home decor deals at that home event. Boo hoo.

Very disappointing, I agree. I got absolutely gorgeous kitchen/serving items there last year, and went back for a second round when it was marked down 30%. I went to browse this year and found Sam's Club. :-( I love a deal as much as the next girl, but the prices were no cheaper than Wal-Mart. A not-so-great sale of cheap plastic stuff and TP in place of the affordable design I was expecting was a big letdown. Bring it back, Target!

So are we all definitely sure it is not happening this year? I thought maybe they were just doing it a bit later this year...I've been going there once a week to see if it had started yet:( Darn it...I loved the Global Bazaar/Home Design Event/whatever it was called..this stinks!

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who was upset to see that Target didnt have their usual this year...maybe next year, at least I hope so

Good question Sarah, if the event does show up later in the season I will happily eat my words! Janell

Oh no! What a disappointment! I had forgotten all about it until now. Oh well, at least you got cute shoes out of it...;-)

It really isn't the same. So disappointed! But yes, the Regency collection is great - I have to get a few pieces. After checking them out in person, the quality was quite nice!

I guess it is a sign of the economy. People are only buying what they need not what they want. TP is a need but home decor may be more of a want. I see it in my etsy shops. Lots of items get hearted but few are being bought.

i inspire one thing from your blog, the good design is not the good graphic presentation, it's about the transferring of the good feeling t the people!

oh, the shoes are darling, but I'm so disappointed. I thought after the awful Costco knock-off left, the design event would come! Thanks for letting us know.

Yes! And I always "stalked" my favorite find, waiting for a markdown. I paid well under $20 for each of these items. (Hum, you and me both? Perhaps that is why the event is no longer here?!)

And...should this event show up after the TP and Shampoo have been removed, I will happily eat my words and start shopping!

I was also looking forward to the Home event but so sad to see nada when I stopped in last week. Bummer.

I love those little pink and black shoes. Are they comfy? I've always assumed they would be terribly uncomfortable b/c they are so cheap. Please tell me I'm wrong.

Isabella & Max Rooms said...

I wore them for 6 hours on Monday, taking my mom to lunch for her birthday and walking around the mall shopping...and they were very comfortable! And still in one piece...I'll post an update later in the season!

I LOVE those shoes - what a score. Too bad about the home event. I always managed to find something unique!

I miss the event too. I was all excited to see what they would have and was disappointed to see all of those cardboard boxes filled with things I could find for less at a dollar store. So sad :(

Target has some really near acrylic trays and shiny pillows and zebra print pillows just came out.

I preferred the Global Bazaar...

Somewhere I heard Target was going to go the route of Costco with the pallet promotions, selling bulk.
Bring back the old Target!!!

Cute shoes!

We have an awesome HUGE black and white clock that we got for 50% off during that event a few years ago. So sad they're not doing the Global Bazaar/World Market/Home Design Event this year!

I am behind in the times since I did not know such an event existed at target. What great finds. Especially love the red floral shoes.

Totally with you on this. I made a special trip and was so bummed!

So very sad! They really have nothing right now. We keep going in with high hopes but nope nothing. And you are right we can stock up on TP and PT anytime or just head over to WM. We don't need another WM. We need our Target!!

I love the shoes! Great Target purchase

Oh I am with you!! I'm so bummed out about it. I thought it may be coming out in February but I keep hearing otherwise. Bring it back Target!!!

So sad. Sniffle. I heard Target wants to stop marketing to fashion-forward customers and wants to become the new WalMart. Sniffle.

I was looking forward to the event as well and go to find a mini sams club merchandised to look like the dollar store. What in the world is going on. If they change all of Target to look like that I'll have to find somewhere else to shop.
Cute shoes though!

Here is some discount furniture and this furniture site features a huge selection of wrought iron furniture, bar stools, outdoor patio furniture, indoor patio furniture, bedroom furniture, dining room furniture, living room furniture, kids bedroom furniture, childrens furniture, bunk beds and discount furniture.

I think Target now realizes their mistake as most of the club pack items are deeply discounted.

I've worked as a contracter at a Target corporate building and walked the marketing floor where they test products they will be selling and let me tell you Target can be one of the stupidist business's or at least the purchasing department can be.

My bf and I shake our head at some of the "ideas" they come up with only to take a hit by having to discount things just to move them.

Last year I got 2 pictures for my dining room that I LOVE and I have received so many compliments on.

I too was VERY disappointed that they did not have the after Christmas Home Decor event. I actually saw an article on the internet about why. It was driven because of the economy. I think that's hogwash. People still buy home decor items at Target every day despite the economy. The TP and other bulk items DID make it look like Walmart and Sam's. NOT what Target customers are looking for!!!

Love those silver shoes!
