In Between The Holiday Rush The Office Redesign Got Painted

I found a couple hours this past weekend to finish painting the Home Office Redesign. Dreary weather continues, and with it less than stellar photos. But I am loving the color, SW 7026 Griffin.

(In the midst of all the Holiday Cheer,
working on a room design is my Sanity.)

The color is not tremendously different from the original color, see the slice of SW 6146 Umber remaining at the right? (This area will be covered with fabric or wallpaper.) But as I often find myself saying, little changes can add up to significant differences.

I have also started thinking about drapery hardware, what finish it should be. Mixing metals in a space can create interest. The room has a black lantern and door hardware, the chair has a steel base, so can I bring in a warm brass? It might just be too much.

The PB Standard Rod with Endcap, shown below in Warm Brass, would show up beautifully against the wall color. This finish would also be gorgeous with the Turkestan drapery panels and grass roman shades.

A pewter finish would pick up flecks of gray in the roman shades and fabric, while showing well against the wall color. This choice makes sense given the steel base of the chair and ottoman.

The Antique Bronze finish would tend to get lost against the wall color. However, with a lot of similar drapery hardware throughout the house and the black finishes in the room, this choice would offer consistency.

It comes down to selecting the look that appeals to me. (Oh...and the client.)Really, we can't go wrong with any of these options. But I'm curious, which finish would you choose?

I would probably go with the antique bronze so that it would be one less thing to distract your eyes away from that gorgeous fabric! But who am I to give advice? I can't pick a wall color for my bedroom!!!

I like the brass finish, I think it would be a welcome change in the office and pick up the colors of the shades :)

I vote the brass. I think metals can be mixed if they are done appropriately & I think with the drapes & shades it will work beautifully!

Probably bronze, or something that will match the color of the chandelier.

Love this, Janell! What a beautiful space. And I'm impressed that you managed some non-holiday decorating in December. :-)

I really like the first one. Also, could you do a post on how you make the draperies? I ran out of time to make mine before the holidays, and I would love to see how you make your's. I don't know why I am such a scaredy cat about cutting into the fabric!

They are all nice. My first instinct would be to go with the first one, BUT, if I wanted the fabric to be the focus I would go with the last one so it would blend in with the wall and let the shade and drapery stand out. You're coming along really well with this room. Can't wait to see it when it's done!

Hmm... I am liking the pewter. Target has some nice pewter rods right now that are very similar to the Pottery Barn ones. And I would guess that they are considerably less expensive!

What a beautiful room! That light fixture is simply fantastic!

I'd probably lean towards the pewter to stay in the warm tones myself. But it would also depend on what else was going in the room.

Either way, I have a feeling you'll know how to make it work. :)

I'm just loving the LIGHT in this room - wonderful windows. And the rich color frames them out beautifully; very negative/positive space.
Merry Christmas!

I'm going to join Holly and vote for pewter.
I know I'm going to be more than a little jealous of this lovely space! ;)

You're right that any of the choices would work, so I guess it just depends on how much you want the hardware to stand out. I would tend to want it to blend in so that the window treatment would be the focus, but that's just me. as always, I'm sure I'll love whatever you do. MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

Oh that is a tough one. Love the warm brass but I must admit I am one for consistency. All my rods throughout my house are an acid finish on iron that resembles the antique bronze. There is a fabulous ikat pattern fabric by Larry laslo for Robert Allen called quintessence in color sun stone. It would work with all three rod colors and it makes the most fabulous curtains. Good luck with your choice. Your home is beautiful and I love reading your blog.
