Art In Interior Design - It's Personal!

My husband is a big fan of music,
and Elvis Costello ranks high on his list of favorite musicians.

So it only follows that one of his prized possessions
is this signed print of Elvis Costello's
"Imperial Bedroom" album cover.

While this is not my favorite piece of art,
I did have it framed, highlighting the signature,
for him a while back.

The piece was on the verge of getting ruined...
from lack of proper care.
I did it because I knew how much it would mean to him.

After sitting in the back of a closet
it is now going to be hung in his office.

One wall, to be painted a fabulous accent color,
will be almost completely covered with art.
This signed print front and center.

Here's a bit of information on the art used for this album cover.

"The cover painting, titled "Snakecharmer & Reclining Octopus" by Barney Bubbles (but credited to "Sal Forlenza") is a pastiche of "Three Musicians" by Pablo Picasso, and letters on the zipper-like creatures in the upper right spell "PABLO SI"."
Wikipedia

Interesting, just like this project.

I confident the space will come together in a way
that pleases both my design aesthetic
+
my husband's desire to fill the space
with things that reflect his personality and interests.

I am a huge Elvis Costello fan and this is such a great print, especially with his signature. What a conversation starter, definitely a nice addition to the room - Off to iTunes to play some Costello now! ;-)

Very interesting piece (in a good way)! I think you will pull off the design wonderfully!

Hmm, I can see how it might not be your absolute first choice in art, but it could be a heck of a lot worse.
If you crack that issue of our taste versus husbandly possessions, please do post about it!

I could too design a whole room over that album cover. Very cool & with Elvis' autograph makes it really..really cool. I hope you post pictures once your husbands office project is done. Thanks for commenting on my blog today. Very appreciated. Happy weekend to you & hope it starts to warm up there if only a wee bit! ~ deb

I was just thinking if you & your husband are big music fans, you likely have rubbed elbows in a dark theater or venue with my eldest daughter. She lives for the Portland music scene. That & the brew fests!

It was nice of you to have it framed for him and he's going to love it in the room - I guess that's what's important. It will be fun to see how you build the room from this - I'm sure it will be fabulous as usual! Have a good weekend...

Hi Janell! Wow, this piece is very cool. Reminds me of the whole 80's scene...and I can say that since I grew up in it, lol. Seems to have a "deco" feel to it. I am extremely excited to see how you will use the bright accent wall to incorporate the colors in this piece. I know it will be nothing short of fabulous!

I like your ideas for the office--this is unrelated, but I've been wondering where you got the table lamp in your family room. It's exactly what I've been looking for in mine!

beautiful home!

While I was working on the Family Room Redesign I was also working on a client's family room, and she had the perfect table that was too big for her space. Well, it came home with me!! She found it at Crate & Barrel a few years back, they have a similar one for sale now, just a bit smaller.

Good luck, Janell

What a thoughtful idea! I'm a HUGE Elvis Costello fan. Years ago, a friend and I spent an ENTIRE day in a cafe because we heard a rumor that he was going to make a surprise appearance. We must have had 20 cups of coffee - and he never showed! I still love him though. :)

Art can be so hard because everyone is different but I love the story behind this!
