A Sunday Of Painting...The Afters!
(the before)As promised, here are the afters. I hope I haven't over promised the change. But I absolutely do believe in the transforming powers of a simple can of paint.
And, I can't even begin to tell you how
delighted
thrilled
overjoyed
&
beyond happy
I am that I changed my mind on the paint color.
The color, Sherwin-Williams Quiver Tan, is warm, rich and just borders on
being too dark...
but doesn't quite go there.
When Isabella first saw the change she commented,
"I feel warmer in here now."
It struck me as the perfect response to the color change.

(the before)The Quiver Tan now continues from the family room to the front of the house. This eliminates a paint change in the hallway corner. Having one color throughout the main areas helps create a feeling of continuity.

(the before)Today saw rain and gray skies, yet the color still managed to look warm.
That is a result worthy of a little happy dance!

OH, YEAH! Was my initial response--it looked JUST RIGHT-so much better (although it never was "bad" in the first place). It is just perfect now! Great choice, indeed.

i agree that it's that perfect balance of warmer without going too strong or dark. it seems to tie your warm and cool color choices together really well. it's actually making me rethink a couple of my paint choices for our new house, since a lot of our wood and furniture is the same palette as yours.

Janell, what a beautiful job! It's making me rethink our two story family room... I vacillate between wanting the soft, calming, clean look of tone on tone with the ivory moldings and ivory walls, and the more dramatic look of something darker. What do you think of leaving the two adjacent window walls ivory, (getting the tone on tone with the window moldings) and going darker with the other two? Thanks for your input! - L in Michigan
I absolutely love it. I agree with Isabella it looks warmer. Even with such a large space (at least that's how it appears) it seems so cozy and inviting with the darker color.
Kudos to you! I can't wait to see what you do next.
P.S. By the way, did you get the foyer painted, too, or did you leave it SW Comfort Gray? - L in Michigan
It was a subtle colour change but I agree with Isabella - a lot warmer. Cozy:)

It looks SO beautiful. What a big difference. Now I know what is wrong in my home, although I have tile vs. wood which doesn't give a nice contrast. This means I need to figure out a rich universal color. My walls are Dunn Edwards Underbrush. The darker color you chose is perfect!!! Thanks as always for sharing each step with us.
I totally agree with you about paint ~ that is my mantra. From the pictures {or my monitor} it looks like a subtle change to the darker color. I like it!

LOve it. It really is warm and yummy. I was wondering about all of the art work in your home. Is there a story behind why you chose them, did you paint them yourself, were they just pieces you loved, are they mass productions from a shop? I need art in my home but I don't have the $$$ to buy what I love.
I think Isabella has a designer eye like mom! :-) It is a subtle change, but beautiful and warm. Love it.

It is a rich warm color and I agree with Isabella! How in the world do you get things put back so quickly? After I paint, it takes me days (and sometimes longer) to get things put in place but I'm such a procrastinator!

I think the change is pretty monumental. The color works perfectly with the white trim and the dark woodwork and floors. Perfection!
Gorgeous! I can't believe it's a tan, it looks a lot like the gray I just painted my dining room (at least online). Nice choice!
Judy, I put the room back together asap because I had promised photos. THEN Today I have a sunny day, I need to go get some more photos! Also Chloe, the reason I love this "tan" color is that it has some gray undertones, makes for a more complex & interesting shade of brown.
'L' in Michigan, I left the foyer comfort gray, love how the two colors look together. I'll post pictures. And as for your paint question, every space is different, but you might be onto something, treating the two areas of the room differently. I say it would be worth trying...it is only paint after all!

Love it! You just totally illustrated a point I made to someone the other day. They were worried that if they painted their walls a darker color it would make the space feel smaller. I explained that (if you choose the right color/sheen) it actually warms up the space because it give it some definition. The eye finally can settle somewhere. Ya know?...I know YOU know.

I must know the trim color! We picked quiver tan and adore you trim color!
Hi Scott, then let me tell you! The trim color is SW Softer Tan, 6141. It is quite a dark tan color, I don't know if my pictures convey that, but it looks great in person. Good luck, and don't you LOVE Quiver Tan?!
