I am having to exercise a bit of patience when it comes to the last fabric to be used in the Living Room Redesign. The over the top gorgeous Carlisle fabric, with its pinks + oranges, is on BACKORDER. Isn't that the most dreaded word in decorating? But here I am waiting. The wonderful people at Calico Corners have called me twice with updates...isn't that nice? It is all about managing expectations.
And my expectation is that the final item for this design will end up being a Christmas Present.
In the meantime I did receive the rusty orange Como cotton velvet, which will back the Carlisle pillows. I ordered just enough to squeeze two 12" square pillows out of the yardage as well. I was inspired by my little zebra pillows found a few years back at Pottery Barn. This isn't a size you see often, but perfect to add just a dash of color.
Cut. Sew. Trim. Stuff. Stitch Close. Fluff.
I got a kick out of the fluff step this time around!

Love the fabrics you chose. "Backorder", I've been hearing that word a lot lately !
I love those fabrics, too. Boo hiss for Backorder!
I love the fabric and the colors your using!
LOve those pillows--what a great gift! I wish I had a sewing machine so I could try!
They look great! I wish I had a sewing machine!
It looks awesome! Great job.
Calicos corners? I used to shop there with my mom in law!!! It was in washington then..wow didnt know they where still around!
Just have to say Im crushing on your couch. Don't get me wrong - I love my couch but Im jealous of your super deep seats that call for naps and lounging. Since I had to find a short couch, I couldn't find one that had deep cushions so I'll never be fully satisfied.
Sorry for the rant...loving the orange touches and can't wait to see the big reveal.
They are going to look great with that other fabric, Janell! I'm not the best sewer in the world, but I love doing pillows. Straight lines, they are quick, and can really make a difference in a room.
Ahh, pillows- those are what I was trying to store away when I came crashing down! I have so many pillows around my house I dont know what to do with them all! I started making my pillow covers removable so I stop having this problem. I need a house like yours with lots of storage space so I can go back to making all the pillows I want :)
Beautiful fabrics(!)... especially the one on backorder.
I love pillows :-)

I LOVE PILLOWS! cuute fabrics uve chosen!
HAPPY MONDAY!
When I started reading this, I was worried you were going to say that you might use a different fabric in place of the Carlisle! Can't wait to see how they turn out. By the way, where do you do your sewing, and then do you stash your machine away or do you have a permanent place for it? I've been meaning to ask you. Thanks. - L in Michigan
Oh no about the back-ordered fabric! Sorry!!
Can you teach me how to sew so that I can make my own pillows?!!! Sew jealous...bwa ha ha!
Thanks! I don't really sew frequently enough for the machine to have a permanant home...so I just pull it out and set it on the kitchen island (like I did for this quick pillow project) or at the kitchen nook table if I am working on drapes or something that will take a bit longer.

Great, great, great mix of colors and textures. Goes to show - accents make the room!
Great color choices - You always seem to be on the mark when it comes to selecting great colors together or by themselves that really work. Very very nice!
Sigh... Not a fan of backorders! Love your fabric choices though and can't wait to see the CC fabric in action.

Looks great, Janell! I love the orange next to the black and white patterned pillows. Very chic!
(and yes, backorder is SUPER frustrating!)
You have picked some fantastic fabrics!! I love the graphic black and white patterns!

Hi, Janell--
Everyone at Calico Corners hates to hear the word "Backorder" too! There are a number of yarn suppliers, dyers, finishers and/or printers that have slowed down or shut down operations, creating unexpected delays. Unfortunately, it's happening to everyone in the industry, including those (like Calico) who track their inventory very carefully. The merchandising group tries to anticipate demand by reordering well in advance--but have patience because the "Carlisle" jacquard is definitely worth waiting for!
Best,
Jan
Well, having just bannished the orange velour of my double rocker, I found this post hilarious! Orange/rust is MUCH better as a 'pop' of color, methinks, and your pillows looks fabulous!
